About Us:

The Uganda Youth Network (UYONET) is a regional focused leading umbrella Youth CSO Network that works to mainstream young peoples’ engagement in development and governance processes in East Africa and beyond. UYONET was started in 2002 to respond to the increasing demand for a collective platform for research, training and policy advocacy for young people by young people. With a membership of 31 district networks constituted by over 147 youth organizations, UYONET has continued to be the apex of youth programming and designing appropriate interventions that respond to the needs of the youth across the region.

Job Summary: The Program Officer Membership will be in charge of daily operation and management of the organisation programmes and engagements with a set of pre-defined performance targets. The main responsibility is to ensure that programmes engagements produce the specified outputs as outlined in the Annual Work Plans and national Strategy and timely production of all reports both progress and financial.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Membership growth and development: 30%          

  • Work in liaison with other programme officers, design and oversee the rollout of a secretariat programme implementation framework that will ensure member organisations gradually take up the mantle of programme implementation up to the level of 50 percent by end of 2018
  • Develop an implementation framework to roll out the ongoing membership and partnership development strategy to benefit all members organisation that require the same.
  • Support member organisations to mainstream cross-cutting issues and inclusiveness including gender and persons with disability in their programming work

 Member organisations profiling (20%):

  • Ensure that all UYONET member organisations are fully profiled on the Network website (www.uyonet.or.ug)
  • Ensure that all UYONET member organisations have active face book and twitter accounts and their capacity to use the same is built.
  • Every programme best practice, report or policy paper is published on the internet as a minimum and widely disseminated to all stakeholders.

Partnership Development and fundraising

  • Develop a partnership strategy for members.
  • Convene at least two partnership conferences involving development partners, Government and member organisations to appraise them on the implementation of the National Strategy
  • Craft and implement innovative resource mobilisation strategies to sufficiently raise funds to implement the National Strategy.
  • Support member organisations raise resources for their programming work and are able to account as follows;
  • Support UYONET member Organizations nd submit fundable proposals to potential sources by the end of 2018
  • At least 10 of the 20 member organisations are supported to form effective partnerships through consortia and realise funding to implement their programme work by end of 2018

Monitoring Evaluation Reporting & Learning 15%         

  • Participate actively in contributing to monthly documentation of “success stories” and other anecdotal information to demonstrate results/impact of initiatives undertaken by member organisations and enhance the overall quality of performance reports to constituents
  • Together with the programme manager, develop indicators and protocols for monitoring progress in implementation of program interventions and capacity building initiatives and generate the necessary progress reports
  • Institute regular interfaces with member organisations to review and reflect on progress and results in order to identify, mitigate challenges and learn lessons for improved program delivery in advocacy
  • Work with other Programme officers and managers, to produce quarterly and annual work plan performance reports

Human Resource management 5%

  • Line manage the membership associate and volunteers and interns in the component.
  • Support volunteers assigned to members.

Other (5%)

  • Perform any other duty from time to time that may be assigned to him by the Executive Director
  • Other duties as required. Occasionally working on weekends and holidays for which time off in lieu can be taken.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies or related
  • Experience in leadership programming and certificate in leadership is an added advantage
  • Working with networks, alliances and membership organisations is a must!
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise with people at all levels, and of all ages and backgrounds
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including report writing, and writing for and understanding of different audiences and sensitivity for different cultural contexts
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritise as required to deliver tasks on time
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software, including databases Desirable:
  • Demonstrates the ability to exercise sound judgment, identify problems and devise practical solutions for continuous improvement,
  • Previous experience of working in a youthful, multi-cultural environment and with networks, u Knowledge of online social platforms for marketing and communications
  • The individual must be results orientated, highly self-motivated and have demonstrated analytical skills.
