Background of Mutolere School of Nursing and Midwifery
Mutolere School of Nursing and Midwifery is a private not for profit Nursing Training school, affiliated to Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau, and belongs to Kabale Diocese. The school is registered by the Ministry of Education and Sports, Classified under Vocational Training with registration number ME/TVET/097.
It was started in 1984 with two disciplines running concurrently, both at Registered level, and Extension courses taking 1½ years. In 1994, Direct Entry Diploma Nursing Course taking 3 years was introduced.
In 2006 Certificate Comprehensive Nursing course was started taking 2 ½ years, after training six groups, it was phased out and replaced by Certificate Nursing and Certificate Midwifery courses both taking 21/2 years.
Currently the school is running the following courses; Diploma in Nursing/Midwifery (Extension) both for 1 ½ years, Diploma in Nursing (Direct entry) taking 3 years and Certificate in Nursing /Midwifery both taking 2 ½ years.
Geographical Location:
Mutolere school of Nursing and Midwifery is located on Mutolere – Kisoro Road, Mutolere village Nyakabande Sub-county, in Bufumbira` East Constituency, Kisoro District, in South West of Uganda.
It is 500kms away from Kampala, the Capital City of Uganda and 17kms from both boarders of the Republic of Congo and of Rwanda respectively.
It is in a valley surrounded by hills, with fertile volcanic soils. The place is densely populated and the majority of the people are peasants with poor financial status as they only depend on food crops such as Irish potatoes, beans and maize.
Furthermore, the insecurity in Rwanda and the war in Democratic Republic of Congo have affected the Economy of Kisoro district, the cost of living is very high and the schools in Kisoro are facing challenges of food shortage with rising food prices of which our school is not exceptional.
Vision:
To train Nurses and midwives serving the people of Uganda that reflect love and professional skills in their provision of health care services to all those in need regardless of sect creed, or tribe and in particular vulnerable groups such as the children, Pregnant women and abject poor while confirming with the moral and ethical code of conduct of health care providers.

To train an optimal range of Health care staff of high moral and professional standards for the PNFP and National care Institutions
