About MCD Global Health:
MCD Global Health is a recognized leader in global health, partnering with John Snow, Incorporated (JSI) to implement the USAID-funded U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative Uganda Malaria Reduction Activity (MRA). MRA aims to improve the survival and well-being of Uganda’s most vulnerable pregnant women and children in selected regions by working with the Government of Uganda to improve health system capacities.
Job Summary:
The Malaria Technical Officer (MTO) will support MRA activities at district, health facility, and community levels. This role involves ensuring high-quality implementation of health facility-based interventions in line with National guidelines for malaria management.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with district local governments for capacity building in malaria case management, prevention, information systems, supply chain, and governance.
- Support implementation of technical activities via district-led planning and collaboration with other malaria partners.
- Liaise with DHT members and health facilities for mentorships and CMEs using MOH guidelines.
- Assist in drafting program documents, maintaining documentation of meetings and training materials.
- Monitor project activities, identify gaps, and propose solutions targeting affected health facilities.
- Strengthen surveillance for malaria and respond to epidemics and upsurges.
- Engage communities to build capacity for malaria prevention interventions.
- Strengthen and expand iCCM, including VHT training in collaboration with malaria partners.
- Support malaria epidemic preparedness, vector control activities, and operational research.
- Assist in quantification, distribution, and redistribution of malaria commodities.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Professional/educational degree in medicine or nursing.
- Experience in a clinical setting, public health intervention at district level, and supporting health commodity distribution.
- Experience in compiling project reports, research, and using national databases like DHIS2.
- Desirable: Experience in community-based public health interventions, especially in malaria, and knowledge of local regional languages.
- Skills: Independent working, teamwork, supervisory, communication, mentorship, training, and supportive supervision in public health interventions.
- Understanding of gender aspects in malaria programming is preferred.
