Admission Requirements for Full-time Degree Programs

Regular Admission

Placement into departments of each college/faculty/school shall be decided as per the criteria set by the Ministry of Education.

Special Admission

Special admission criteria developed by the Academic Unit Council and approved by the APC may be employed for special admissions of females, mature students and for upgrading programs. Mature applicants who have completed secondary education may also be eligible for admission to regular undergraduate programs provided that:

They have records of continuous employment for a minimum of 5 years, their work relate to the field of training to which they seek admission, and have proof of demonstrable achievement in their careers;

Private applicants who fulfill admission requirements as regular students and produce evidence of financial support to cover full tuition fees and other expenses may apply for admission into the regular program. However, such admissions should be approved by the AVP; but such admission shall not exceed 5% of the total students admitted in such a program.

Debre Tabor University Admission Requirements

They pass an entrance examination to be administered by the relevant departments;

Under no circumstances shall private admissions to regular programs do not exceed 5% of the total students admitted in such a program;

A student who has successfully finished a set of particular modules which entitles him/her to a degree may also peruse other related modules and earn another degree continuously. Details guidelines shall be worked out by Academic Standard and Program Review Committee (ASPRC).

Other special admissions, such as people from disadvantaged areas, physically challenged people, people needing special training etc. are granted by the decisions of AVP.

In order to attract potentially resourceful candidates, special admissions criteria are employed by some programs as specified hereunder or other details shall be worked out by the APC.

Debre Tabor University Admission Requirements

Doctor of Medicine: Applicants must:
Have a B.Sc. degree in the field of nursing, public health, biology, chemistry, pharmacy, anesthesia, radiography, physiotherapy, medical laboratory technology, environmental health, occupational health, ophthalmic nursing, cataract surgery, and other related fields;

Successfully pass the entrance examination administered by the CHS;
Produce evidence of at least two years’ service relevant to the field of health; and Pass interview prepared by the Selection Committee of the CHS.

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine: Applicants must:
Have a B.Sc. in animal science, animal health science, veterinary laboratory technology, Biology and chemistry;
Have at least two years of relevant service; and Successfully pass an entrance exam to be set by the respective faculty/college.
Pass interview prepared by the Selection Committee of the AES.

Engineering: Applicants must:
Be graduates of recognized technical schools; and Meet other admission criteria to be set by the respective Faculty/College/Institute.

Admission Requirements for Continuing Education Program (CEP)

Applicants who qualify under the following criteria may be admitted to continuing education programs:
Possess a passing mark for entrance to higher education, which is decided by the Ministry of Education each year.
Candidates must have completed high school or must be in possession of its equivalent qualification;
Must pass entrance examination to be administered by the University where applicable; Must fulfill the requirements set by the Ministry of Education and the University.

Admissions to all undergraduate continuing education programs shall be processed through the University Registrar taking into account criteria set for such admissions in consultation with the college/faculty/school AUC with the approval of the Senate:

University employees and their dependents can apply and register in the continuing education Programs and other special programs as per the rules and regulations of the University. A maximum of two administration staff and their dependents of the University may be admitted into each department each year on competitive bases.

Re-admissions

All re-admissions shall be processed in accordance with the procedures laid down by the Senate.

Re-admission of students in good academic standing

Re-admission of students in good academic standing shall be allowed to apply for
readmission.
A student who, for reasons beyond control, discontinues studies may apply for readmission into the same program for any number of times provided that the maximum duration of stay in the program, counted from the date of first enrolment, has not expired or will not have expired before completion of the program following re-admission.
Such readmission shall be to the same semester that the student discontinued studies.
However, a student who has 80% attendance shall be readmitted before two weeks to the final exam.
The applicant is required to provide documented and acceptable justifications for his/her withdrawal.
Readmission is subject to availability of facilities and necessary budgetary allocations.

In those cases where there had been curricular changes in a program, the status of the student will be determined accordingly at the time of his/her application for readmission.

The academic unit may require the readmitted student to take new courses that have replaced those taken and passed prior.

However, where there is an equivalent course, such shall be done for the student by the academic unit.

Upon re-admission of a student in good standing, the academic unit shall supply a list of courses from which the student will be exempted and of new courses substituting phased out courses to be taken.
