Job Summary:

The Fitter Machinist will oversee the setup and adjustment of machine tools and workpieces to ensure precise alignment and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:

Interpretation: Analyze technical drawings, review samples, or written instructions to grasp the specifications of the part to be machined.

Operational Expertise: Strategize the method and sequence of operations; utilize various machining tools to cut, shape, and finish metal and other materials according to specified dimensions.

Machine Setup: Prepare and set up machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, drilling machines, and grinders, as well as heat treatment furnaces, making necessary adjustments to achieve exact measurements and tolerances.

Measurement and Inspection: Conduct precise measurements using tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to ensure the accuracy and quality of finished parts.

Problem Resolution: Identify and resolve issues related to the machining process, such as tool wear, material defects, or deviations from specifications.

Material Management: Select and handle materials, load them into machines, and secure them for machining processes.

Quality Assurance: Inspect finished parts to ensure consistency with specifications, discard defects, evaluate finished machined products, and conduct quality checks to ensure they meet standards.

Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance on machines and tools, and troubleshoot and make minor repairs when necessary.

Documentation: Maintain records of approved, defective units or final products, machining processes, measurements, and any encountered issues during machining operations.

Environmental, Health, and Safety Responsibilities:

Adhere to safety policies and work instructions.

Report and participate in the investigation of incidents and accidents in the workplace.

Identify potential hazards in the course of work and report them to the supervisor.

Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

Certificate in Machining and fitting trade

Completion of vocational training or apprenticeship in Machining/DIT is an added advantage.

Minimum of three years of experience in a reputable company or workshop setting.
