Job Summary
Since February 2019, AKF signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Educations and Sports aimed at successful implementation of joint Education Improvement Programs (EIP) with core emphasis to: Strengthening ECD learning and teacher training frameworks, promotion of Teacher Training & Development opportunities, Strengthening delivery of School Management platforms for community dialogues for cross cutting issues affecting teaching and learning outcomes and promotion of best practices through use of ICT in teaching and learning.
AKF growing portfolio in West Nile currently supports 355 government aided primary schools in the districts of Moyo, Obongi, Yomba and Arua through the Adolescent Girls Education in Crisis Initiatives (AGENCI), Foundations for Learning/F4L (both funded by Global Affairs Canada/GAC) and through a ten-year participatory learning improvement program named Schools 2030. At the heart of this work, AKF aims to equip children and young people with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values to interact effectively with the world and become contributing members of society.

Key roles and responsibilities
The HCD Coordinator will work with the program team to identify design technical expertise needed to support school and community driven solutions for providing flexible toolsets that drive change within EIP implementing communities
Design and promoting eip adaptations
• Identify opportunities and design challenges based on EIP priorities
• Plan design processes based on globally informed and locally rooted evidence-based methodologies
• Create learning plans, identify the right questions to ask for meaningful engagement of EIP school community practitioners
• Collaborate with other designers Uganda and within the East African region as well as globally to strengthening integration of HCD approaches in EIP and other partners quality education improvement programs
• Facilitate HCD workshops to move the designs forward
• Promote demand driven practices for teachers and community members to test, monitor, evaluate and iterate identified solutions
• Promote ICT enabled platforms for experimenting and further support incubation of scalable emerging solutions
Quality assurance and reporting
• Monitor community led initiatives that promote action driven task teams for gender responsive education in EIP school communities
• Identify and evaluate risks associated with proposed activities and take appropriate timely actions
• Develop user-friendly tools that enable design teams easily offer support to school going children in their localities especially adolescent girls and boys
• Ensure EIP feedback mechanisms are strengthened to enable implementing teams learn from practice in a timely manner
• Ensure quality and timely implementation of jointly agreed design team activities against set objectives and targets
• Document and present key innovations/solutions emerging from design workshops and make recommendations for feasibility
• Undertake any other delegated responsibility as assigned by the immediate supervisor
• Participate in data collection through stakeholders’ interviews, literature review and data analysis

Required Qualifications and Experience:
• Master’s degree in Education, Early Childhood Development/ECCE or any other relevant field
• Experience of using Human centred Design is a MUST
• At least 07 years’ experience of promoting school community engagement programmes
• Demonstrable experience of adult learning facilitation
• Excellent command of spoken and written English, including report writing
• Computer skills, especially MS Word and Excel.
• Familiar with MoEs school engagement policies and other initiatives
• Experience of working in multi-cultural and diverse teams including experience of working in refugee settlement context
• Evidence of understanding of and commitment to child protection and safeguarding as well as other vulnerable populations
• Fluency in one or more of the following three local languages: Kakwa, Lugbarati and Aringati, will be an added advantage
