Advertisement for Recruitment of General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets, Specialist Officers, General Duty Recruits, Tradesmen/Women and Defence Forces Constables into the Kenya Defence Forces.

1. The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is pleased to announce to the general public the recruitment of General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets and Specialist Officers General Duty Recruits, Tradesmen/Women and Defence Forces Constables into the Kenya Defence Forces which is scheduled to take place in the month of February 2024-2025

2. Corruption.

Bribery and other acts of corruption are against the law. All persons presenting themselves for recruitment purposes with fake/falsified documents or caught engaging in any corrupt activity shall be arrested and prosecuted.

If you accept to be conned, you will lose your money or property and go to jail; it has happened to many citizens during past recruitment.

3. Prospective candidates willing to join Kenya Defence Forces MUST meet the following conditions and education qualification:

Conditions

 

  • Be Kenyan citizens with no dual citizenship.
  • Be in possession of a valid Kenyan National Identity Card.
  • Age – between 18 and 26 years old for GSO Cadets, not above 30 years for Specialist Officers and not above 39 years for Chaplains/Imams.
  • Be physically and medically fit in accordance with the KDF standards.

Minimum Education Qualification

General Service Officer (GSO)

 

  • Cadets Must hold a minimum mean grade of B (Plain) in KCSE with at least C+ (Plus) in English, Mathematics and one Science subject.

The initial training period for this category will cover three (3) continuous years leading to a BSc in Military Science and Security Studies on successful completion.

Specialist Officers

 

  • Must hold a minimum mean grade of B (Plain) in KCSE with at least C+ (Plus) in English, Mathematics and one science subject.
  • Must be holder of an undergraduate degree from a recognized University/institution and be registered with statutory body where applicable.

The initial training period for Specialist Officers will not be less than three months.

b. Minimum Academic Qualifications

(1) General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets

Must hold a minimum mean grade of B (Plain) in KCSE with at least C+ (Plus) in English, Mathematics and one Science subject.

The training period for this category will cover three (3) years leading to a BSc in Military Science and Security Studies upon completion.

(2) Specialist Officers.

Must hold a minimum mean grade of B (Plain) in KCSE with at least C+ (Plus) in English, Mathematics and one science subject.

Must be a holder of an undergraduate degree from a recognized University/institution and be registered with a statutory body where applicable.

The training period for Specialist Officers will not be less than three months.

(3) Servicemen/women (General Duty) Recruits,

Must hold a minimum mean grade of D (plain) in KCSE.

(4) Tradesmen/women.

Prospective candidates willing to apply must satisfy the conditions and requirements given below.

(a) Technicians.

A minimum mean grade of C (Plain) in KCSE, a relevant Diploma or above from a recognized Institution and be registered with the relevant statutory bodies, where applicable.

(b) Artisans,

A minimum mean grade of D+ (Plus) in KCSE and either a relevant certificate with Government Trade Test Grade II or Craft II from a recognized Institution.

(5) Constables

(a) Be a retired Kenya Defence Forces Service Member or a retired National Youth Serviceman/woman.

(b) Be between the ages of 30 and 55 years old for retired KDF and between 35 and 45 years old for retired NYS.

b. Specialist Officers, In addition to the minimum academic qualifications, Specialist Officers must posses’ qualifications and where necessary be registered with the relevant Statutory Bodies for the vacancies below:

(1) Medical Officers.

Must hold at least a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery and be registered with Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (MPDB).

(2) Pharmacists.

Must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and be registered with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPM.

(3) Nursing Officers.

Must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and be registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).

(4) Dentists.

Must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Dental Surgery and be registered with the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (MPDB).

(5) Laboratory Technologists.

Must hold a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology/Medical Laboratory Science.

(6) Counselling Psychologists.

Must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Counselling Psychology.

(7) Public Health Officers.

Must hold at least a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health/Environmental Science.

(8) Cyber Security/Digital Forensic/IT Officers.

Must hold at least a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science/Information Technology/Software Engineering/Networking.

Certification in Cyber Security, Digital Forensics, and Ethical hacking or Information Security analysis will be added advantage.

(9) Engineers.

Must hold at least a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical, Electrical & Electronics, Telecommunication, Instrumentation and Control, Mechanical.

Marine, Biomedical, Naval Architecture and Mechatronics Engineering and be registered with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).

(10) Journalists.

Must hold at least a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication majoring either in Broadcast Production or Public Relations with at least two (2) years working experience.

(11) Lawyers.

Must hold at least a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized University, be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, hold a current and valid practicing certificate with at least two (2) years practicing experience.

Experience in litigation will be an added advantage.

(12) Physical Training Officers.

Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science or Bachelor of Education (Physical Education).

(13) Finance/Accounting Officers.

Must hold at least a Bachelor of Commerce nance/Accounting option).

(14) Music Specialists.

Must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Music.

(15) Chaplains/Imams.

Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Theology/Islamic studies from a recognized Institution.

Protestant Churches and Roman Catholic Chaplains must be ordained Ministers and recommended by Archbishop and Episcopal Conference respectively.

Imams must be recommended by the Chief Kadhi.

(16) Hospitality Management/Catering Officers.

Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management/ Food Production.

(17) Entrepreneurship and Management Officers.

Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurship.

(18) Statistics Officers.

Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics/Applied Statistics/Actuarial Science.

(19) Procurement & Supply Chain Management Officers.

Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management /Purchasing & Supplies Management.

(20) Library and Information Officers.

Must hold at least Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science.

(21) Project Managers.

Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Project Planning and Management.

General Conditions for KDF REcruitment February 2024-2025

Be a Kenyan citizen with no dual citizenship.

Be in possession of a valid Kenyan ID. Additionally, four copies of the ID and PIN certificates will be required.

Age – Between 18 and 26 years old for GSO cadets, general duty recruits and tradesmen/women with certificates/government trade test, not above 30 years for specialist officers, Tradesmen/women with diplomas, and not above 39 years for chaplains/imaams.

Be physically and medically fit in accordance with the KDF standards.

Have no criminal record.

Minimum Height :

(a) Men – 1.60m (5ft 3in)

(b) Women – 1.52m (5ft)

Minimum Weight :

(a) Men – 54.55 Kg (120 lb).

(b) Women – 50.00 Kg (110 lb).

Female candidates must not be pregnant at the time of recruitment and during the entire duration of training.

Specialist officers and tradesmen/women should have a minimum of two years of practising experience in their field of specialisation from the date of registration with the relevant regulatory/statutory body in Kenya.

Minimum Academic Qualifications for KDF Recruitment Febraury 2024-2025

General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets. 

Must hold a minimum mean grade of B (Plain) in KCSE with C + in English, Mathematics and one Science subject. The training period for this category will cover three years leading to a BSc degree in Military Science and Security Studies upon completion.

General Service Officer (GSO) Cadet – Undergraduate Degree Holders.

Must hold the minimum requirement to qualify as GSO Cadet above and be a holder of an undergraduate degree from a recognized university/institution in any of the disciplines being recruited.

The training period for this category will be eleven months.

Specialist Officers.

Must hold the minimum requirement to qualify as GSO Cadet above except for chaplains / imaams who must hold a minimum mean grade of C + in KCSE.

Must be a holder of an undergraduate degree from a recognized university/ institution and be registered with a regulatory/statutory body (where applicable) in any of the disciplines listed.

The training period for specialist officers will be six months.

Servicemen/women General Duty Recruits. – Must hold a minimum mean grade of D (plain) in KCSE.

Tradesmen/women 

Prospective candidates willing to apply must satisfy the conditions and requirements given below :

(a) Technicians. A minimum mean grade of C ( Plain ) in KCSE, a relevant diploma or above from a recognized institution and be registered with the relevant statutory bodies, where applicable.

(b) Artisans. A minimum mean grade of D + in KCSE and either a relevant certificate with government trade test grade II or Craft II from a recognized institution.

(C) National Youth Service (NYS) trained technicians or artisans who meet the above requirements are encouraged to apply.

Constables

(a) Be a retired Kenya Defence Forces Service Member or a retired National

Youth Serviceman/woman.

(b) Be between the ages of 30 and 55 years old for retired KDF and between 35 and 45 years old for retired NYS.

(c) Possess a Discharge Certificate with a minimum rating of “Very Good” in conduct.

(d) Must have served for nine years in the Colour Service and retired honourably from KDF.

The underlisted applicants have been shortlisted for interview as Tradesmen/women.

The candidates are required to report to Langata Barracks – Nairobi, on 27th December at 0800 hrs (8.00 am).

Successful candidates will be considered for recruitment into the Kenya Defence Forces.

All candidates must bring with them original national identity card, all academic and professional certificates, curriculum vitae and any other testimonials.

Feeding and accommodation will be provided during the interview period.

Unsuccessful candidates will be reimbursed reasonable road travelling expenses subject to production of proof in accordance with Kenya Defence Forces regulations.

3. Citizens are further notified that recruitment is only conducted at the advertised recruitment centres countrywide during daytime before 1800 hours (6pm) on weekdays.

Successful candidates will be issued with calling letters at the recruitment centres by the Senior Recruiting Officers.

Any person purporting to recruit or issue calling letters away from recruitment centres is a con person.

Any person purporting to recruit or issue an alleged calling letter away from a recruitment centre will be doing so fraudulently.

Recruitment of Service men/Women,Trades men/Women & Constables

4. The KDF Recruiting Teams consisting of Kenya Army, Kenya Air Force, Kenya Navy and Defence Forces Constabulary will be visiting the recruiting centres as indicated below to recruit Servicemen/ Women, Defence Forces Constables on dates indicated.

5. All potential candidates reporting to the recruitment centres should come from the sub counties/ divisions of their respective counties and districts.

They must bring with them

– Current original national identity card.

– Academic certificates and testimonials.

– Photocopies or scanned documents and police abstracts will not be accepted. Servicemen/women

3. Prospective candidates willing to join the KDF MUST meet the following conditions and educational requirements:

a. Conditions

(1) Be Kenyan citizens with no dual citizenship.
(2) Be in possession of a valid Kenyan National Identity card (3) Age – between 18 and 26 years old for GSO Cadets, not above 30 years for Specialist Officers and not above 39 for Chaplains/Imams
(4) Be physically and medically fit in accordance with the KDF standards.
(5) Have no criminal record.

(6) Minimum Height:
(a) Men 1.60m (5ft 3in).
(b) Women 1.52m (5ft)
(7) Minimum Weight:
(a) Men 54.55 Kg (120 lb).
(b) Women 50.00 Kg (110 lb).
(8) Female candidates must not be pregnant at the time of recruitment and during the entire duration of training.

b. Minimum Education Qualifications

1. General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets

Mean grade B (Plain) in KCSE with a minimum subject grade of C+ (Plus) in English, Mathematics and in any one of the sciences subjects. Those aspiring to join KDF in this category should note that the initial training period will cover three (3) continuous years leading to a BSc in Military Science and Security Studies on successful completion.

2. Specialist Officers

Must hold a minimum grade of B (Plain) in KCSE with at least C+ in English, Mathematics, and one science subject. Must be holder of an undergraduate degree from a recognised University/Institution and be registered with the relevant statutory body, where applicable. The initial training period for specialist officers will be no less than 3 months.

1. Medical/Medical Officers – Dentists
Must be in possession of at least a Bachelors degree in Medicine and Surgery(equivalent of MBChB) or Bachelors degree in Dental Surgery; and be registered with the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board(MPDB).

2. Pharmacists
Must be at least a holder of Bachelors degree in Pharmacy and registered by relevant regulatory body.

3. Nurses
Must be at least a holder of Bachelors degree in Nursing and be registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).

4. Anaesthesiologist/ENT Surgeons
Must be at least a holder of Master of medicine degree and be registered with the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (MPDB).

5. Mathematics
Must be at least a holder of Bachelors degree in applied Mathematics with a minimum of two (2) years experience. Post graduate diploma in Education will be an added advantage.

6. Education Officers
Must be at least a holder of Bachelors degree in Education with a least minimum of two (2) years‘ experience and registered with Teachers Service Commission.

7. Entrepreneurship
Must be in possession of Bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurship.

8. Information Technology
Must be at least a holder of Bachelors degree in Computer Science (Software Development) or Information Technology (Programming, Networking).

9. Telecommunication Engineers
Must be at least a holder of Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunication Engineering and be registered with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB).

10. Aeronautical Engineers
Must have a minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering and be registered with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB).

11. Mechanical Engineers
Must be holders of at least Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering and be registered with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB).

12. Electrical Engineers
Must be at least a holder of Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and be registered with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB).

13. Marine Engineers
Must be at least a holders of Bachelors degree in Marine Engineering and be registered with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB).

14. Public Affairs Officers
Must be at least a holder of Bachelors degree in Mass Communication.

15. Meteorologists
Must have a BSc in Meteorology and registered with World Meteorological Organisation and with a minimum of 3 years working experience.

16. Chaplains/Imams

(a) Roman Catholic Chaplains
Must have a professional degree in Theology from a recognised institution and be an ordained priest.
(b) Anglican Church Chaplains
Must have a professional degree in Theology from a recognized institution and be an ordained minister.
(c) Muslim lmams
Must have a professional degree in Islamic studies and be a qualified Imam.

17. GIS Programmer
Must have at least a Bachelors degree in Geomatics Engineering and GIS.

3. The initial military training for Specialist Officers will take four months.

4. Clear photocopies of relevant academic certificates and current National Identity card (ID) must be attached to the application and be addressed to the:

The listed applicants have been shortlisted for General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets and Specialist Officers interviews. The General Service Officer (GSO) candidates are required to report at the Kenya Military Academy (KMA) – Lanet,Nakuru on , 24th September at 0800 hrs (8.00 am), while the Specialist Officers candidates will report at at the same place (KMA) on , 05th October, at 0800 hrs (8.00 am) for interview and subsequent recruitment.

Candidates must bring with them original National Identity Cards, academic and professional Certificates, appointment letters from previous employers, registration certificates by relevant statutory bodies and any other testimonials.

Feeding and accommodation will be provided during the period of the interviews. The candidates are further advised to produce proof of travel expenses for the purpose of fare reimbursement.

(2) Age – Between 18 and 26 years old.
(3) Education – A minimum of mean grade D (Plain) in KCSE.
(4) Be physically and medically fit in accordance with the KDF standards.
(5) Have no criminal record.
(6) Potential candidates must turn up in appropriate running gear.
(7) Female candidates must NOT be pregnant at recruitment and during training.

b. Conditions for Defence Forces Constabularies

(1) Must be Kenyan citizens and should not have dual citizenship.
(2) Age – Below 52 years old.
(3) Be physically and medically fit in accordance with the KDF standards.
(4) Have no criminal record.
(5) Be ex-Defence Forces Service members (Kenya Army, Kenya Air Force, Kenya Navy).
(6) Possess a Discharge Certificate of minimum “Very Good” in conduct.
(7) Must have served at least a 3 or 9 years’ colour service.

Your Kenyan identity card and birth certificate is needed to prove your citizenship.

Do not forget to carry your original academic certificates with you. Result slips are usually rejected during recruitment.

Appropriate running gear becomes handy as candidates are required to compete in a lengthy race.

Recruitment will be at your nearest district headquarters at dates to be announced later.
