Mak and Earth University discuss continued collaboration
On 13th July 2017, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance and Administration), Professor Barnabas Nawangwe hosted the Provost of Earth University in Costa Rica, Prof. Daniel Sherrard to discuss opportunities for continued collaboration among Universities as well as sustainable development in Africa.
Dr. Sherrard is conducting a series of learning visits in Universities in Africa supported by the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM), a consortium of 66 African universities operating within 26 countries spanning the African continent. Makerere University is one of the Member Universities and also hosts RUFORUM Secretariat.
According to Prof. Nawangwe, Makerere University and Earth University have collaborated for more than 20 years. The Earth University is renowned for its expertise on experiential learning methods particularly in agriculture. Makerere University a renowned hub for research and innovations not only hosts the RUFORUM Secretariat, but also runs the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) with over 100 research partnerships that provide a platform for innovative teaching, learning, research and services responsive to national and global needs.
Thus continued collaboration between both universities is in line with solidifying the internationalization of higher education and strengthening capacity in agriculture, sustainable development, experience-based education and community engagement.
