Restless Development (Uganda) is an International NGO established to address the challenges faced by young people in Uganda by placing young people at the forefront of change and development. Our vision is for all Ugandan youth to live healthy and productive lives, fully supported by those around them. Our programming focuses on three core areas: youth sexual and reproductive health and rights, youth civic participation and youth employment and livelihoods.
Job Summary: The Program Intern EWAKISI Project will support implementation of the new and exciting project in Karamojong region funded by Porticus Africa. This person preferably from Karamoja region will coordinate the EWAKISI (Let’s include) program for young people living with disabilities. The project will be implemented in 5 districts of Abim, Kotido, Napak, Nakapiripirit and Moroto. And will target young people both with and without disabilities. The Objective of the project is twofold-gathering information about disability inclusion in formal education structures and economic systems as well as raising awareness about the critical need to include young people living with disabilities in these two spheres. The program targets both young people with and without disabilities. The programme Intern will support with the project implementation in accordance with the objectives, work plans and budgets agreed with the donor.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Programme Preparation, Implementation, Delivery and Monitoring (30%)
- Support with Preparation, Implementation and Monitoring of the program and the coordination of program inception and community meetings
- Support the recruitment training, placement and management of Young Community Researchers
- Support mapping, identification and management of Disabled Persons (DPO’s), sub-county, community and other local level networks and partnerships
- Work with program coordinator to build the capacity of the Young Community Researchers on youth research and take lead in obtaining reports from the YCR’s
- Coordinate the support and mentorship visits in the communities to ensure disability inclusion
- Ensure participation of young people in youth research and local decision making processes relating to disability inclusion
- Ensure Young Community Researchers follow all reporting procedures, guidelines and adheres to Restless Development policies
- Ensure safety and welfare of the Young Community Researchers and document any project incidents
Development and Managing of local Partnerships (30%)
- Support the key local stakeholders to have clear understanding of the program
- Establish formal partnerships with the local stakeholders in the schools, sub-counties and within the communities
- Support the DPO’s to conduct joint activity review and monitoring of the program activities
- Participate actively in the project review and team meetings
- Support to link Young Community Researchers to platforms and any inclusion programs within the districts
- Design and develop a database for DPO’s and any other NGO’s and partners engaged in disability inclusion programing
- Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly or annual program reports to the key stakeholders at the sub-county levels
Young Community Researcher Management and Development (15%)
- Ensure that Young Community Researchers are delivering results through review of their activity plans and reports
- Provide discipline, care and guidance in an approachable, supportive and helpful way to Young Community Researchers
- Work closely with the Program Coordinator to build the capacity of the Community Researchers
Financial Planning and Management (20%) Work closely with the Programme Manager and Finance unit to:
- Ensure that Young Community Researchers are delivering activities in accordance to Restless Development policy and procedures
- Support with the obtaining and consolidation of regular updates and reports as required
- Support with the process of developing donor expenditures reports
- Support Program Coordinator with development of annual programme budgets and quarterly reforecasts
Other duties as required (5%)
- Other duties as required and requested of you. Occasionally working on weekends and holidays for which time off in lieu can be taken
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The Restless Development Program Coordinator EWAKISI Project job should preferably hold a Degree or Diploma in any of related field of study, or any related community development course from a reputable institution.
