Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Trade Industry and Cooperatives responsible for standardization, Quality Assurance, Metrology and Laboratory Testing (SQMT) with the objective of facilitating fair trade, promoting local industries and Consumer protection. The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Co-operatives established by the UNBS Act Cap 327 and became operational in 1989. It is governed by the National Standards Council and headed by the Executive Director who is responsible for the day-to-day operation of UNBS.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor and review the reliability of the financial information generated by the bureau
- Develop policies and guidelines to review procurements of the bureau to ensure value for money is obtained in the purchases
- Develop and recommend guidelines to improve financial procedures and systems to prevent waste and fraud
- Draw attention to any failure to take remedial action by auditors to ensure compliance to audit outcomes
- Carry out appraisals, inspections and investigations as may be requested from time to time by the Manager Audit or management
- Review utilization of resources with regard to economy ,efficiency and effectiveness
- Coordinate risk assessment and profiling for departments and functions and recommend accordingly to management the most appropriate course of action
- Supervise, monitor and mentor staff in the Division to ensure that they handle their assignments professionally
- Prepare and coordinate audit programs for specific audit assignment
- Prepare and submit audit reports for specific audit assignment
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the UNBS Principal Internal Auditor job opportunity should hold a Masters’ degree in Business Management studies (Accounting option) or professional accountancy qualification recognized by the ICPA.
- Honours degree in Business/Management studies (Accounting option) or professional accountancy qualification recognised by the ICPA.
- Membership to a professional body
- At least eight years’ experience
- Must be computer literate with skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the Internet applications
- The successful candidate must have a high level of integrity and professionalism, Communication, Teamwork and Analytical skills and needs to be a team player, an excellent communicator with good oral communication and presentation skills.
