Through sustainable agriculture land management (SALM) based on agroforestry, Vi Agroforestry supports smallholder farmer families in lifting themselves out of poverty. Since its inception in 1983, Vi Agroforestry has evolved into an expert organization implementing development projects through local partnerships with member-based farmer organizations.
Job Summary:
The Program Officer – Environment, Climate Change and Resilience (ECCR) is responsible for ensuring high quality in all work related to Environment, Climate Change, and Resilience, including agroforestry, sustainable agriculture land management (SALM), food security and nutrition, biodiversity, and ecosystem services. Reporting to the Country Manager, the ECCR Officer plays a crucial role in promoting and supporting Vi Agroforestry’s interests and strategies.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Promote and support Vi Agroforestry’s interests and strategies.
- Ensure a rights-based approach and adherence to Vi Agroforestry policies, guidelines, and operating procedures.
- Maintain compliance with donor requirements and ensure high-quality work.
- Participate in resource mobilization efforts and contribute to effective cooperation among staff.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of risk management plans, work plans, and budgets.
- Provide technical advice, support, and capacity building in agroforestry, SALM, food security, and biodiversity conservation.
- Advocate for issues related to agroforestry, climate change, and resilience.
- Engage in networking activities to strengthen Vi Agroforestry’s position and promote active participation in relevant forums.
- Empower partners and stakeholders, especially women, youths, and children, in agroforestry and SALM activities.
- Support the establishment and management of Agroforestry Training Centers.
- Carry out any other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Country Manager.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- Knowledgeable on grant management and compliance issues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office365 applications.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the NGO sector, with 3 years in leadership roles.
- Experience in agroforestry, SALM, climate change mitigation, and project management.
- Strong network and networking skills.
- Familiarity with Do No Harm, Conflict Sensitivity, and Human Rights Based Approach.
- Ability to multitask, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in English.
