*     A candidate must have obtained at least 25 points according to the APS scale.
*     A candidate must have obtained a minimum symbol D in English at Grade 12 level.

All students admitted to the 1st year of study who have obtained less than a (C) or (3) in the Grade-12 final examination for English, must register for the module Academic English, OR pass the WU English Exemption Benchmark test prior to commencement of the respective academic year (i.e. commencement of the Spring or Fall academic year) as proof of Academic English Proficiency;

Credits earned by exam for prep-modules are reflected on the academic record of the student and a student may be exempted from having to re-do these modules in future, should such a student transfer to another program of study at WU;

Prep-modules mentioned above are bearing five (5) credits each, and these modules are offered during a period of block lectures prior to commencement of lectures reflected in the B.Ed curriculum in order to equip all students and get them on par with their peers prior to commencement of the academic program;

Selection to the B.Ed program is based on merit, including any aptitude tests that may be required.

Admission Requirements for Postgraduate Programs

Any candidate who wishes to enroll for a postgraduate program, must hold a prior qualification within the related field at the preceding NQF exit level, e.g. for Postgraduate Diplomas, a Bachelors degree is required; for a Masters degree, a Honors degree is required; for a PhD, a Masters degree is required.  Applicants should note that a four (4) year professional degree exits at Honors level, and these candidates are entitled to seek admission to a Masters program of study, without holding a stand-alone Honors qualification.

Selection into any of the research programs is based on merit, the preceding program of study and the quality of the research proposal submitted during application.

It is very important to note that candidates will be penalized for poor grammer/spelling within a research proposal.  It is the applicant’s responsibility to have the proposal language edited prior to submission.  The APA referencing style is available in PDF format on this page under the “Research” tab.
