INTRODUCTION

Boland College has a dedicated E-Learning department who continuously train lecturers on using a blended approach in the classroom.

This enables you as a student to:

  • See your subject guidelines and subject plan, for a whole term/trimester.
  • Follow up on the work you have missed (you still need 80% class attendance to qualify for examinations).
  • Do revision.
  • Use peer-to-peer learning, an educational practice in which students interact with other students to attain educational goals.
  • Receive assignments online.

ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION

Every registered student receives an e-mail address from Boland College to use for educational purposes.

All relevant communication from lecturers to students will be via e-mail, as well as information from Boland College, NSFAS, the Marketing Department and the WIL Department.

Students will retain these addresses for three years after they have successfully completed their studies.

To access their e-mails, students can go to webmail.bc.edu.za to log in.

LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM – MOODLE

A learning management system (LMS) is a software application for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting and delivery of educational courses or training programmes.

A learning management system helps the lecturer to deliver material to the students, administer tests and other assignments, track student progress, and manage record-keeping. An LMS is mainly focused on online learning delivery but also supports a range of uses, acting as a platform for fully online courses as well as several hybrid forms, such as blended learning and flipped classrooms. Boland College has adopted a blended approach to teaching and learning, with a possible long-term vision of flipped classrooms.

At Boland College we use Moodle as our LMS.

BLENDED LEARNING

This is the provision of structured learning opportunities using a combination of face-to-face contact, resource based, and distance learning methodologies to deliver the curriculum, with different levels of ICT supporting teaching and learning.

E-LEARNING STRUCTURE

The E-learning department is supported by Campus E-learning Committees on each campus.

Please contact your lecturer or your Campus E-Learning Committee member for more information.
