BREBNER HIGH SCHOOL
SUMMARY OF ADMISSIONS POLICY –
1. Admissions Criteria
1.1 Brebner High School is an English Home Language School and learners who have English Home Language in the Primary School will be given preference when accepted, irrespective of whether they meet any other criteria.
1.2 Learners from the natural feeder area of the school as well as learners from Brebner Primary School, will be admitted if they meet the age criteria and can prove that they have achieved the required level for which they are applying for admission and if they have handed in their application forms before the closing date.
1.2.1 The natural feeder areas for Brebner High School is:
Bayswater; Waverley; Helicon Heights; Pentagon Park;
Dan Pienaar, Heuwelsig, Woodland Hills, Lilyvale, and the new developments around Northridge Mall.
NB: Parents must submit proof of residence if required to do so.
1.3 This school does not cater for married learners or learners with children of their own.
1.4 Learners from other areas outside the feeder area are not entitled to admission to this school and may, at the principal’s discretion, be admitted if there is space. When admitting such learners the following criteria will be used:
1.4.1 Hostel accommodation, if there is space and if the learner meets the applicable requirements.
1.4.2 Previous or present family members at the school, if the learner meets the applicable requirements.
1.4.3 Academic progress, sport and culture or other applicable consideration.
Please take note of the following:
No learner will be admitted, even if they meet the criteria, if they are two years older or younger than “Grade + 6” years (except in exceptional cases).
If parents do not hear from the school by the middle of August of the year, they can accept that their initial application was unsuccessful. The responsibility is with the parents to confirm whether their child/ward has been accepted, but the school will also send a sms or email message.
2. Late applications:
Late applications (after initial handing in date) can be considered on merit and preference may be given to:
2.1 Bona fida parents who are transferred to Bloemfontein after the handing in date. In this case we will require:
2.1.1 Appointment or transfer letter of parent
2.1.2 Proof that the bona fida parent lives in our feeder area.
2.2 A letter signed by the District Director or HOD of Education requesting the school to admit the learner (subject to available space).
3. Application for admission
3.1 Parents/guardians of prospective learners must fully complete the application form which must be signed.
3.2 Latest academic report of learner
3.3 ID of parent/guardian
3.4 Birth certificate of learner
3.5 In due consideration of the official closing date for applications, the school requests applications to be handed in by 31 JULY 2020
3.6 Parents or learners can be requested to supply extra documentation or attend an interview at the school.
4. If applicants (or parents/guardians) give any incorrect information or supply fraudulent documents, the application can be declared NULL AND VOID, even if applicant has already been accepted.
5. Appeal
Parents may appeal the decision of the school by completing the required appeal form at the offices of the school and this appeal will be forwarded to the relevant officials if necessary.

When to apply
Applications should be submitted as early as possible in the applications cycle, which commences in April of each year.
