British International College Subjects Offered 2024-2025
IGCSE
The International General Certificate of Secondary Education ( = O Levels) – Students of 15 to 17 years of age who have completed the Foundation course or Grade 8 normally choose between 7 and 9 subjects at this level. These should include English first language, a second language, Mathematics, Science and IT. Students spend 2 years preparing for these examinations which provide an internationally recognized school leaving qualification.

International AS and A Level
General Certificate of Education – Advanced Level – Students of 16 years of age and above who have already obtained the IGCSE or a South African Matric study these as the finest preparation and most widely accepted entrance qualification for university anywhere in the world. Internationally, depending upon the university, anything from 2 to 4 subjects may be required for admission. It should be noted that the academic standard of A Levels is equivalent to a South African 1st year university course. Students normally take 2 years to prepare for A Level examinations, but some may be ready to sit the examinations within only 1 year. The International AS levels, the first papers of A level are normally sat in the second year of study. Students may attend a South African university with the right set of AS level qualifications.
