Dunamis Christian School Welkom Admission Policy

This school admits learners of any race, colour, and national ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally afforded or made available to the learners at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, national or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs, athletics and other school administered programs. The school policy, developed by the School Board is consistent with the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa 1996 (No 108 of 1996), the South African Schools Act, 1996 and applicable provincial law.

Dunamis Christian School Welkom Admission Procedure

  1. Parents visit the school liaison officer for an initial interview.
  2. All potential learners Gr. R to Gr. 12 have to write diagnostic tests.
  3. Parents complete all the relative forms at the back of this document and return them to the school with the Application Form and all required documentation.
  4. Application is submitted accompanied by the full registration fee and previous report card.
  5. The office will then call for an interview with BOTH PARENTS and the student with the principal.
  6. Parents will be notified of acceptance.
  7. Parents and learners are responsible to familiarize themselves with the Code of Conduct and policies of the school.
  8. All learners must have the following immunizations before enrolment: Diphtheria, Polio, Measles, Rubella, Tuberculosis and Hepatitis B.
  9. The parents are responsible to disclose any special needs, medical conditions and chronic medical needs, including anxiety, phobias, ADD, ADHD, diabetes and epilepsy.
  10. Both parents and/or guardians are to attend the Parent Orientation Training as a condition of enrolment.

Documentation needed before enrollment is finalized

Admission of Non-Citizens

The South African Schools Act, 1996 and this policy apply equally to learners who are not citizens of the Republic of South Africa and whose parents are in possession of a permit for temporary or permanent residence issued by the Department of Home Affairs.

A learner who entered the country on a study permit must present the study permit on admission to the school. Persons classified as illegal aliens must, when they apply for admission for their children or for themselves, show evidence that they have applied to the Department of Home Affairs to legalize their stay in the country in terms of the Aliens Control Act, 1991 (No 96 of 1991).

Age requirements for admission

Learners admitted to the school in Grade R must be five years old or turning six before 30 June of the year of admission. Learners admitted to the school in Grade 1 must be six years old or turning six before 30 June of the year of admission.

Learners admitted to the school at an age above the age norm for a grade, will write a battery of school entry tests to determine their grade level. As far as possible, they will be placed in a track facility, or with his or her peer group, unless it is not in the educational interest of the learner. In the latter case the learner will be placed in a suitable lower grade, and an educational intervention will be worked out for the learner to enable him or her to catch up with the peer group as soon as possible.

Children with special needs may also be accommodated, provided it is within the school’s ability to cater appropriately for the learner’s educational and other needs (e.g. any physical impairment).
