NMU Short Course in Management of leg ulcers
The purpose of this Short Learning Programme (SLP) is to enhance the knowledge related to leg ulcer management and empower health care professionals to accurately assess leg ulcers. It would also enhance the ability of the clinician to care adequately for patients with leg ulcers by selecting the appropriate wound care products, applying the correct compression technique and to refer as needed.
Layout of the SLP
- Two days, non- credit bearing programme at R1000 per person inclusive of material and refreshments
- Dates:7-9 March 2017
- A registered NMMU Short Learning Programme
Learning components include theory and practica:
- Patient assessment and differentiating the types of leg ulcers
- Wound assessment, ulcer etiology, and use of advanced skills such as Doppler, ABPI readings
- Management of leg ulcers by use of correct compression/ wound care products and the correct application
- Effective after-care and rehabilitation
