NMU Short Course in Mentorship in Nursing
The purpose of the SLP is to develop successful mentoring behavior which would result in adequate and successful supervision of staff and students in all areas of teaching and learning. This includes the clinical simulation laboratory, the classroom and the clinical environment.
Layout of the SLP
- A two-day, non-credit bearing programme at R1000 per person inclusive of material and refreshments
- The program is registered with NMMU’s SLP department.
Learning components include theory and practica:
- Understanding mentorship
- Understanding student’s needs, planning outcomes
- The process of mentoring inclusive of interpersonal skills, behavioral descriptions and listening skills
- Teaching/learning strategies and evaluation techniques
- Relationship ethics
- Mentorship contract
- Leadership, facilitation and mentoring
