About the MSDS (Military Skills Development System)
The Military Skills Development System, or simply known as the MSDS, is a South African initiative that encouraged young people of the current generation to pursue a full-fledged career in the military department. By providing an extensive 2-year training programme, the initiative aims to open up the ideas of participants and equip them with credible basic military training. By the end of the journey, participants get to serve in uniform through either internal or external deployment.

Eligibility Criteria
To sign up for the MSDS (Military Skills Development System) 2024-2025 – South African Navy, candidates must adhere to the requirements below. Each of these items are integral to the overall success of your entire applications. To guarantee a promising applications, it’s advisable you meet all of the following items. Failure to do so might not automatically disqualify you from the programme. However, it may put your applications in a risky position.
The MSDS (Military Skills Development System) 2024-2025 – South African Navy Eligibility Criteria are as follows:
1. General Requirements
- Officially recognized as a citizen of South Africa
- Does not have prior criminal track record
- Is not bound to a certain area
- Recommended to be single at the moment
- Fulfills all medical assessments
- Has a Matric certificate.
2. SUBMARINERS AND DIVERS
- Currently between 18-22 years old and must have finished their Grade 12 qualification with Mathematics and Physical Science (at least Level 4)
- Fulfill the medical fitness requirements in accordance with SANDF
- Does not have any physical disabilities or suffer from claustrophobia or fear of heights
- Has strong swimming abilities.
3. COMBAT, ENGINEERING, TECHNICAL, AND SUPPORT
a. Applicants with Matric/Grade 12 only
- Currently between 18-22 years old and must have finished their Grade 12 qualification with Mathematics and Physical Science (at least Level 4)
- Engineering and Technical Applicants between 18-22 years old must have finished their Grade 12 qualification with Mathematics and Physical Science (at least Level 4)
- Support applicants currently between 18-22 years old must have finished their Grade 12 qualification
- Has a Matric qualification.
b. Graduate applicants currently between 18-26 years old
Have finished their Grade 12 qualification with a Degree/Advanced Diploma/National Diploma/N6 with Trade Test Certificate in Mechanical, Marine or Electrical Engineering
Have finished their Grade 12 with a completed Degree/Advanced Diploma/or National Diploma in Human Resource/Logistics/ Organization and Work-study/Sports management.

After you have downloaded the application form, skim through the queries before providing your personal information. The information that you give must be accurate to your current conditions. Candidates found to be falsifying any aspects of their applications will be revoked of their registration.
Once you have filled everything in, please provide the following documents:
- A copy of your Identity Document
- A copy of your Matric Certificate (certificates for 2019 and before will not be accepted)
- Your most updated Curriculum Vitae
- Your highest achieved qualification (e.g. Degree, National Diploma, or N6 with Trade test)
- Transcripts from your N4 and N5 qualification.
All these documents must be included in your dossier. Incomplete submissions will not be accepted by the selection committee.

Closing Date
Applications for the MSDS (Military Skills Development System) 2024-2025 – South African Navy must be submitted before the closing date on 30 July .
Candidates are recommended to make their submissions way before the closing date to avoid last-minute application issues.
Only shortlisted candidates will be notified of their acceptance. If you have not heard back from the selection committee by the very latest 31 December , we regret to inform you that you have not been selected by the programme.
Applicants are highly discouraged from sending in their applications past the closing date. Submissions made past the deadline will automatically be disqualified from the programme.
All decisions made by the MSDS (Military Skills Development System) are final. Candidates found to be canvassing the selection committee will be disregarded.
