STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES OF THE SA MILITARY HEALTH SERVICE

CONTRIBUTIONS TO GOVERNMENT PRIORITIES 2011-2014

Government Priority Outcome 2. The SAMHS core business is directed to contribute to the Government Priority Outcome 2, A Long and Healthy Life for all South Africans. The SAMHS is an active participant in the National Human Development Cluster and the Programme of Action of the cluster is directly linked to the following key outputs as identified and formulated by the cluster:

• Increased life expectancy at birth.

• Reduced child mortality.

• Decreased maternal mortality ratio.

• Managing HIV prevalence.

• Reduced HIV incidence.

• Expanded Prevention of Maternal to Child Transmission programme.

• Improved TB case Findings.

• Improved TB outcomes.

• Improved access to antiretroviral treatment for HIV-TB co-infected patients. Decreased prevalence of MDR-TB.

• Revitalisation of primary health care.

• Improved physical infrastructure for health care delivery.

• Improved patient care and satisfaction.

• Accreditation of health facilities for quality. Enhanced operational management of health facilities and improved access to human resources support.

• Improved health care financing and health information systems, improved health services for the youth and expanded access to home based care and community health workers.

The following five key outputs that constitute the basis of the Health Sector’s Negotiated Service Delivery Agreement (NSDA) for 2010-2014 are required from the SAMHS:
