The eight areas of learning are the following:
- Language Literacy and Communication (English and Afrikaans/Sepedi)
- Human and Social Sciences
- Technology
- Mathematics
- Natural Sciences
- Creative Arts
- Economics and Management Science
- Life Orientation
The first seven learning areas will each draw on the content of the traditionally known subjects like English, Afrikaans, Mathematics, Consumer Studies, Physical Science, Life Sciences, Art, Drama, Music and Accounting. Life Orientation will include religious education, vocational guidance, general guidance and physical activities. Provision will be made for additional subjects.
Progress reports will be based on the continuous assessment of the pupil and will move away from reflecting solely on content accumulation and give greater clarity on study habits and attitudes and how successful the pupil has been in coping with the requirements of modern life and the modern educational system.

Online applications for Gr 8 2024-2025 will be open from May to July.
For Online Applications please log into http://www.gdeadmissions.gov.za
You will need the following supporting documents to assist you with completing your application:
- Proof of online application (GDE ref number) The Glen High School may not accept any supporting documentation without proof of the online application.
- Learner Unabridged Birth Certificate
- Most recent report of the learner
- Parents’ (Legal Guardians’) ID documents or Death Certificate
- Passport / Asylum seekers permit / Refugee status for non – South African citizens (if applicable)
- Valid Study Permit (if applicable)
- Proof of residence of both parents (if different)
- Proof of work address on the Employer’s letter head
- Proof of legal guardianship (valid court order) if not the biological parents of the learner
- NO PHOTOCOPIES will be made by the school.
- NO application can be processed if any documents are outstanding.
Application forms for Gr 9 -11 must be collected from the school office, completed and returned with all supporting documentation back to the school office.
Applicants will be informed whether their applications were successful or not by end of January 2020 at the latest.
