POSTGRADUATE APPLICANTS
APPLICATION AND CLOSING DATE
Applications open on 01 April of the year preceding the year of the intended study and close on 30 September at 12:00 noon. You may apply online by clicking on the following link; https://www.uj.ac.za/apply; should you encounter difficulties when attempting to submit your application online, kindly send an e-mail to tshepangm@uj.ac.za

POST APPLICATION AND CLOSING DATE
Applications open on 1 April of the year preceding the year of intended study and close on 30 September 2024-2025 at 12:00 noon for Honours and Coursework Masters. Research Master and Ph.D. closing 31 October 2024-2025 at 12:00. You may apply online at www.uj.ac.za and follow a link to study @UJ to either apply online or you may download the application form, which should either be submitted to the Student Enrolment Centre or mailed to the University. Online applicants are exempted from paying an application fee, whereas hardcopy applicants are expected to pay a non-refundable application fee of R200.
ALL INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS ARE TO TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING
Submit a completed application form with supporting documents :
- If you are a current student still to complete a pre-requisite qualification or your Final academic transcript if studies have been completed.
- Valid Passport or Identity Document.
- Sworn English Translation of documents (Documents issued in any language other than English)
- Provide proof of a non – refundable Application Fee R200.00 (only hardcopy application)
- Provide proof of the English Proficiency where English was not used as a medium of lecturing (the University prefers the applicant to take the IELTS at an overall score of 7 and TOEFL at an average score of 105–120 for Postgraduate programs) Alternatively, you may elect to write the University of Johannesburg English Language Programme Test (UJELP). Should you require on-campus accommodation, please submit a completed residence application form at the same time you apply to study at UJ
Applicants who are attending or have attended a university within or outside the Republic of South Africa must submit an academic transcript that covers the period of study to allow the assessment of the application for postgraduate studies.

UNIVERSITY FEES
Fees generally increase between 5 and 10 percent per year. Please contact the University in November 2024-2025 to obtain the final fees for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Please Note: All accepted International applicants are required by the Department of Home Affairs to provide proof of available funds for the full tuition fee of the academic year and proof of Medical Aid administered in South Africa paid for a full academic year of study prior to receiving their study visa.
All privately (i.e. Self, Parent/s or Guardian) funded international students are required to pay their tuition and residence fees (on-campus residences) as follows:
- An upfront payment of 30% of tuition and residence fees must be paid before or at registration.
- 35% of the tuition and residence fees to be paid by 30 April.
- 35% of the tuition and residence fees to be paid by 31 July.
The University will offer a 5% discount should the full fees be paid before or at registration.
International levy 2024-2025
The levies mentioned below are to be paid in line with the above-mentioned fees structural payment above together with the non-refundable International Levy, Registration fee, and ICT Levy. - Other countries – R17 000.00
- Occasional and Non-degree purposes/practical training – R8 000.00

- Non-subsidized courses – R1 000.00

International Applicants Admission Requirements
Admission of international applicants is subject to meeting both the university and the Faculty admission requirements as stipulated in the Admission Policy of the University of Johannesburg.
UNDERGRADUATE APPLICANTS
ALL INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS ARE TO TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING

- Final School results

- In case were both first and second choices were unsuccessful, the International Admissions Office will offer an international applicant an alternative choice option when meeting the requirements

Applicants who are attending or have attended a university within or outside the Republic of South Africa must submit an academic transcript that covers the period of study, especially if they intend on being granted exemption from modules or courses at University.
Degree-seeking students
In order to study for a South African degree applicants are required to have achieved a South African National Senior Certificate with a degree endorsement. All International applicants with high school qualifications achieved outside of the Republic of South Africa require a certificate of exemption from the Matriculation Board of South Africa for admission into undergraduate studies. The following supporting documents must be submitted to the Matriculation Board on the address provided below;
- Form M30 (this form can be downloaded on the Matriculation Board website https://mb.usaf.ac.za)
- Correctly certified copies of the applicant’s educational qualifications certified by a South African High Commission, Consulate, Trade Mission or a Public Notary in your home country
- A correctly certified copy of your passport or birth certificate certified by a South African High Commission, Consulate, Trade Mission or a Public Notary in your home country
- Sworn English Translation of documents (Documents issued in any language other than English)
- Exemption fee as determined by the Matriculation Board ( see website https://mb.usaf.ac.za)
- Submit proof of payment for the Exemption fee of R562 payable to the banking details

Applicants from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Congo Brazzaville will have to apply for Matriculation Exemption directly with Matriculation Board. Please submit all correctly certified copies by mail when applying by hardcopy application or e-mail when have applied online. The University faculties have different APS (Admission Points System) for admission. It is important that when applying to University applicants include a copy of school leaving results and/or academic record if they have studied at the university.
TECHNOLOGICAL PROGRAMMES (DIPLOMA, CERTIFICATE)
Should you wish to apply for Certificates or Diploma qualification you can apply directly to the university without an Exemption Application or Certificate.
