Civil Engineering Science
The Department has grown to one of the largest in South Africa and is home to staff that are actively involved in cutting-edge research. The Department maintains strong links with industry and professional associations and provides its undergraduates with training and expertise in hi-tech laboratories with cutting edge equipment.

Civil Engineering Technology
The Department of Civil Engineering Technology is home to two research groups which focus on concrete as a construction material and on soil compaction. The programme is designed to ensure graduates are skilled with knowledge and application of a range of engineering technology services.Responsibilities
Professional development and responsibilities include planning, design and construction of physical infrastructures in addition to management and inspection of construction process. These include buildings, bridges, highways, streets, parks, dams, drainage and irrigation systems, water supply and sewer collection systems, and commercial and industrial facilities.
