About Faculty of Business Sciences
These programmes aim to produce highly skilled graduates, innovative new products and knowledge through courses, programmes, community and research projects that are carefully designed for this purpose.
The programmes also actively engage many of these and other graduates in innovation, utilizing the envisaged WSU science and technology campus, commonly referred to as the TechnoPark, to generate marketable new knowledge and products and further incubate these to generate profitable SMMEs (Small, Micro and Medium Enterprises).
In this way, the programmes will gradually move away from the philosophy of focusing on the generation of only highly skilled graduates that are released as job seekers into the public and private sectors, towards the philosophy of generating small and medium micro-enterprises, and these will migrate into the private sector as job creators.
Concomitantly these programmes will also maintain a high level of research unit productivity and therefore help to shift WSU from the traditional focus on the production of highly skilled graduates to the proliferate production of new knowledge through research units.
Of course, the programmes will, as part of its commitment to the career needs of the communities and industries that it serves, continue its tradition of producing highly skilled graduates who will take up high level positions in the public and private sectors.
Programme research niche areas include:
– Earth and environmental sciences for sustainable development
– Engineering and technology for sustainable development
– Physical sciences for sustainable development
– Life sciences for sustainable development
– Modelling of linear and nonlinear systems with applications.
An extended curriculum programme is designed to equip students who do not meet the minimum admission requirements with the skills which will help them to be successful in their studies.
