The rapidly changing work environments, industry and economic needs are pushing organisations to seek new competencies from fresh hires. At regional, national and global levels, the employability of business people is enhanced by the broad skills and competencies they acquire from the courses. The Seventh National Development Plan (7NDPs, 2017) observes that even though Zambia is well within the Vision 2030’s objective of maintaining the unemployment rate below 10 percent, the country still lacks adequately skilled workers in leadership and business specialised fields hence the need to invest in human capital development. The National Vision 2030 in 7NDGs (2017) provides accelerating economic diversification and job creation by exploiting the country’s resource endowments and diversifying away from coppe r while expanding job opportunities. To actualize this will need qualified and skilled human resource in leadership, business education, accounting, finance, economics, banking, entrepreneurship , marketing, procurement and supply chain management, traditional governance among others. With the enhanced holistic programmes, our students will be groomed to possess multiple skill sets in several disciplines and the know-how to problem – solve emerging leadership and business challenges, producing quality results and thriving in the current demanding workforce. Our business graduates will therefore, be able to enter professions either as managers and process administrators as well as independent leaders, researchers, entrepreneurs, or supporting so-called “intrapreneurs.”
Programme Objectives
- To develop business and managerial skills among students that suits the industry requirements.
- To develop entrepreneurial skills among students that can help them to become successful entrepreneurs or entrapreneurs.
- To prepare students to take up the responsibilities in various functional areas in organisations namely; marketing, production and operation, purchasing and supply, accounting, finance, banking, human resource, public relations, research and development, teaching/lecturing among others.
- To develop social and ethical values in students needed in conducting business operations professionally.
- Apply appropriate quantitative and qualitative techniques in solving business problems.
- Develop viable alternatives and make effective decisions relating to business ethics and social responsibility.
- Exhibit technical proficiency in domestic as well as global business through the study of major disciplines within the fields of business and management.
