- All applicants to this position will be required to demonstrate a commitment to Amnesty’s organisational values and vision and Kenyan Constitution and be familiar with rights-based organising, citizen empowerment and an anti-discriminatory approach to social justice.
- All successful candidates will have demonstrated an ability to work in teams and proven ability to multi-task and work to deadlines, sometimes under pressure
- The purpose of the job is to coordinate human rights education outreach programmes for several clusters of voluntary human rights defenders organised in Amnesty circles of conscience (school clubs, university chapters and adult chamas).
- This position will rally and support our growing number of volunteers, supporters and members that are committed to practically protecting and promoting human rights within their communities. .
Essential
• A degree in social sciences, management or another appropriate discipline
• At least 2 years relevant experience in education, public awareness
raising and community development
• Demonstrated ability to work with others and coordinate financial and other resources;
• Demonstratable community management skills for both online and offline communities including school going youth, teachers, accountants and grassroot communities across Kenya
• Proven ability to react to fast changing political situations, exercising and promoting creative thinking;
• A confident communicator with good analytical, presentation and digital skills;
• Demonstrated experience of content development, digital media mobilization and community engagement using Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp and Telegram channels among others
Desirable
• Ability to frame human rights as a public interest issue within mass and popular culture
• Experience of interviewing and dealing in an appropriate manner with witnesses and survivors of human rights violations especially in responding to education rights denial, neglect and mistreatment of young people both in and out of educational facilities.
• Current membership in one or more associations or networks
• Demonstrated expertise or qualifications in public education, curriculum development, participatory adult learning, online and face to face empowerment learning approaches
• Experience of participating in campaigns through the complete campaign lifecycle (issue identification, strategy development, campaign delivery, monitoring, campaign exit and impact assessment)
