Today, it is the byword for infrastructural development, research and higher education training in Trans Nzoia County. Besides its splendid Ksh400 million education complex, its also home to Kwanza Research Farm. The farm is spearheading research on how to improve food production in this county considered to be Kenya’s bread basket.

Kitale Campus launched its inaugural issue of The International Journal of Agribusiness, Innovations and Rural Development (IJAIRD) last year. The Campus hosts the Kwanza Research Farm. In a keynote address during the launch of the journal, VC Prof. Stanley Waudo discussed the need for agricultural revolution, pointing to the fact that national food production cannot keep pace with the growing population.

Prof. Waudo extensively explores organic farming, green evolution and bio-technology as areas that need to be considered. IJAIRD contains 10 papers selected from a range of articles presented at the conference. Collectively, the papers published suggest the need for a broader perspective to the challenges of enhancing agricultural production, achieving food security, and improving livelihoods and stimulating socio-economic development in rural areas. Going forward, IJAIRD will continue to engage with these and related issues by publishing theoretical reflections, critical analyses, and empirical findings.
