The position

  • The Project Coordinators position is located within the Global Mobility and Infrastructure Service (GMIS), in the Division of Financial and Administrative Management (DFAM). DFAM contributes to safeguarding the financial resources entrusted to UNHCR by maintaining and improving the financial and administrative systems, policies and procedures and promoting cost-effective and transparent use of these resources. GMIS is a new service within DFAM which merges four functions: global fleet management, global travel, global facilities management, and global asset management. Greening the Blue is one of GMIS main cross-functional projects.
  • Under the overall supervision of the GMIS Chief, the Project Coordinator assists the Senior Project Officer in implementing the Greening the Blue strategy. Specifically, the incumbent will lead the coordination of the Green Data initiative.

    Duties and responsibilities

    Under the supervision of the Senior Project Officer, the Project Coordinator will assume the following key functions:

  • Participate in the development of milestones, indicators and timeline for the Green Data Project, and ensure implementation and achievement,
  • Assist in designing a strategy for an efficient and high-quality data collection process,
  • Support establishing systems for real-time, high quality and systematic data collection to enforce mandatory accounting and reporting of greenhouse gas GHG emissions, energy, waste and water across UNHCR as well as on travel and fleet,
  • Contribute to the development or refinement of the project processes and tools,
  • Create data warehouse and dashboards for easy monitoring, reporting and decision-making,
  • Work in close collaboration with relevant stakeholders to prepare high quality data for the annual UNEP UN-wide Environmental Inventory,
  • Review data collected and transfer it into UNEPs online inventory software,
  • Upon UNEP estimates of UNHCR GHG emissions, handle the purchase of CERs to offset all emissions and be declared climate neutral,
  • Share results with focal points and produce report/infographic on each operations GHG emissions,
  • Support in creating a UNHCR-wide Environmental Management System (EMS)
  • Develop and ensure quality and timely communications to Senior Management, countries and partners,
  • Work in close

    collaboration with Representatives, Regional Bureaux and Headquarter entities to nominate focal points for the project,

  • Develop and coordinate training and capacity building activities for focal points to ensure timely and accurate data collection,
  • Handle various procurement activities linked to the projects and manage contractual relationships in compliance with UN/UNHCR rules and regulations,
  • Perform other related duties as required.

    Essential minimum qualifications and professional experience required

  • Years of Experience / Degree Level
  • For P3/NOC – 6 years relevant experience with Undergraduate degree; or 5 years relevant experience with Graduate degree; or 4 years relevant experience with Doctorate degree
    Field(s) of Education
  • Data Management, Information Science, Statistics, Computer science or closely related field Finance; or other closely relevant field.

    Relevant Job Experience

    Essential

  • At least 6 years relevant experience in data management, integration, modelling, optimization, and other relevant areas. Experience supporting cross-functional teams and collaborating with stakeholders on analytics initiatives.
  • Experience with database programming languages (SQL, etc.) and in programming languages such as C#, JavaScript.

    Desirable

  • Experience working in humanitarian settings, and/or for the UN or other humanitarian/development agencies preferred.
  • Experience in delivering big data use cases is desirable, including projects using technology such as Microsoft SQL, Server, Azure SQL Data warehouse or others.
  • Experience working with self-service analytics applications like Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, Qlik and others for data discovery is desirable.
  • Broad understanding of climate change narrative and initiatives geared towards sustainability initiatives and mitigation of impacts.
