1. JOB INFORMATION

Job Title: Environmental, Health and Safety Manager

Division: Kenya Shared Services

Department: Enterprise Risk Management (ERM)

Section/Unit: Environment, Health and Safety

Reports to: General Manager, ERM

Work station: Nairobi

Direct Reports: None

Indirect Reports: In company representatives

 

2. JOB PURPOSE

This role is responsible for developing and implementing a safety strategy that ensures full compliance with safety guidelines as derived from CFAO HQ and ESA EHS Representative, as well as with the relevant local and international occupational and environmental safety guidelines.

The Incumbent shall also ensure the safety of staff, visitors and customers, and promote reduced environmental pollution.

Scope for the role will include all CFAO Group Companies in Kenya.

 

3. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB

Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities

a) Develop safe working procedures relating to activities with significant safety risks in order to prevent the risks;

b) Create and maintain a program for Environmental management system (ISO 14001) certification and continuous environmental performance

c) Prepare the annual EHS budget and monitor utilisation to support efficiency in cost management;

d) Organise and participate in statutory EHS & Environmental audits by Government Agencies and Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) to ensure full compliance;

e) Manage group companies Divisional and Branch safety activities e.g. Quarterly safety meetings and inspections for enhanced awareness and compliance with CFAO Group safety guidelines and laws;

f) Maintain effective working relationships with the EHS suppliers, Government regulatory agencies and the Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA), to ensure group companies receive the support they require in the delivery of service.

g) Develop and Implement the Emergency Safety Management Plan across the group companies and ensure a robust line of escalation exists;

h) Provide a single business focus for accident and incident reporting and assist with subsequent investigation process; provide trend analysis to company and Senior Management to support and provide focus for driving positive behaviours and culture; and ensure proper record management of the occurrences.

i) Develop and operationalise a management system to ensure that HSE integration in core business systems across the group.

j) Liaise with CFAO HQ and ESA EHS Representative in order to ensure group compliance.

Operational Responsibilities

k) Proactively review adherence to Safety SOP with regards to the daily operations of outsourced contractors at the company to ensure dissemination of services against the agreed contract terms

l) Ensure safety and environmental audits are done in order to develop corrective actions, to enhance staff safety;

m) Participate in e EHS supplier verification and enrolment to enhance efficiency in cost management; process EHS supplier invoices in liaison with in Company representative. and Proactively provide training on environmental management to staff to create environmental awareness and compliance by staff;

n) Manage the proficiency driving tests to ensure all staff with access to Company vehicles are fully competent to drive, in order to minimise on accidents. Provide final authorisation for issuance of Anzen cards.

o) Organise and conduct annual Anzen rallies and traffic safety rallies within TKEN to enhance safety awareness.

 

4. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum level of academic and professional qualification required to perform effectively in the role

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental or Public Health or an Occupational Safety and Health relevant course from a reputable institution
  • Certified ISO 14001; ISO 18001 auditor

Minimum level of experience required to perform effectively in the role

  • 10 years of relevant experience in a similar organization, with 4 years’ experience at a management level
