The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) in collaboration with the University of Washington (UW) is conducting research studies in Kenya.
The KEMRI / UW research collaboration aims to conduct interdisciplinary, setting-specific research aimed at improving the lives of women and children in Kenya.
Specifically, our research strives to understand various infectious diseases afflicting these populations and testing interventions.
We are looking for staff who are motivated, committed, and honest to fill the following positions:
Job: Senior Clinical Officer (Study Clinical Officer)
Job Group KMR/7 (SEECK STUDY – 1 Position)
Location: Migori County and Referral Hospital
Job Description:
- Responsible for screening, examining, consenting and enrolling eligible participants in the study and ensuring confidentiality is observed throughout the study processes.
- Conducting follow-up appointments with participants and caregivers.
- Ensure proper documentation, handling and storage of research data in appropriate and lockable cabinets
- Collecting and tracking adverse events and protocol violations that may occur over the study period.
- Ensure study participants are reimbursed as per the protocol requirements
- Doing QA/QC on the site case report forms and study procedures
- Provide weekly site reports on screening, enrollment and follow up study visits
- Assist the deputy coordinator in developing to respective personnel, and partners as need be.
- The Study Clinical Officer will be responsible for submitting weekly reports to the study deputy coordinator summarizing indicators of study progress and communicating challenges and successes to the study deputy coordinator.
- Assist in delivering community-based study activities
- Assist in all study sample collection and especially breast milk collection process
- Assist the study team in editing and developing research documents like protocol, standard operating procedures and case report forms
- Assist with miscellaneous KEMRI/UW study activities including data entry, data query response, attend training, weekly reporting.
- Perform any other duties assigned during implementation of the study.
- Ensure good working relationships in the working environment with colleagues, MOH, other partners, patients and clients at large.
- Perform other duties that may be assigned to during implementation of the study.

Required Qualifications:
- At least four (4) years relevant work experience;
- Diploma in clinical medicine;
- Registration Certificate from the Clinical Officers’ Council;
- Membership to a relevant professional body;
- Proficiency in computer application;
- Demonstrated work performance and results; and
- Demonstrated competency in standard study sample collection
- Phlebotomy experience in pediatrics
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills
- Must be able to work in a professional and ethical manner with competence, accountability, and integrity
- Fulfil the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated track record working in busy clinic
- Experience working with infants
- Experience working with mothers and caregivers
- Experience working with breastfeeding mothers and providing lactation support
- Research experience is an added advantage
Terms of Employment:
One-year renewable contract as per KEMRI scheme of service and a probation period for the first 3 months.
Remuneration:
Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on educational levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency.
The salary scheme is based on the KEMRI salary scales.
