Job Summary
The Community Engagement Manager is responsible for identifying, developing and facilitating relationships between GivePower, community leaders, government representatives and other stakeholders in the communities we serve to support achievement of our Social, Financial, Human Capital and Operational goals. Others describe this person as outgoing, magnetic, courageous, well-spoken and organized. As an ambassador for GivePower in Kenya, teammates and influential people alike should trust, respect, and enjoy their interactions with the Community Engagement Manager inspiring them to assist GivePower in serving those in need.
Duties and responsibilities
1. Work with the Country Manager, Site Operations Manager and Site Selection Manager to develop and execute on site specific community engagement and awareness plans (including site launches and maintenance of community goodwill)
2. Understand and effectively communicate GivePower mission, values and strategic direction to external groups, including key stakeholders and intermediaries, and ensure that our impact on the community is understood.
3. Design and coordinate events for target communities to educate them on GivePower’s work and celebrate, particularly, the opening of new sites.
4. Identify key influencers in communities and organizations that can assist us in reaching our mission’s goals
5. Network, develop and sustain positive relationships these influencers to maximize our local relevance, move projects forward and build brand equity.
6. Identify strategic opportunities and connections between GivePower and the community and prospect for ideas and initiatives.
7. Work with the Site Managers to respond to strategic requests from communities and inquires in a timely and courteous fashion.
8. Work with the Communications team to coordinate and ensure accurate, quality and timely public communications using all forms of media.
9. Act as a translator during community forums
10. Execute on other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and requirements
1. Excellent communication skills with fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
2. Bachelor’s degree in the social / behavioral sciences, development studies, human services or related field
3. Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience in community engagement in the social enterprise or nonprofit sector
4. Demonstrated experience designing and facilitating community workshops, activities and events (including launch activity) where everyone feels able to attend and contribute.
5. Strong ability to communicate with people effectively and confidently at all levels including stakeholders, colleagues, customers and influencers.
6. Positive attitude towards community work with emphasis on the ability to learn from communities and support innovative approaches to problem-solving.
7. Skills to develop positive relationships by understanding and addressing individual or community needs, motivate and collaborate with others.
8. Willing and able to travel to various project sites spending a large amount of time out and about in the communities we serve.
9. Computer literacy (Microsoft Office suite or equivalent) and able to learn other applications.
10. Strength to work under pressure from time-to-time by multi-tasking, prioritizing, making decisions or escalating for support when appropriate to meet stringent deadlines.
