Job Description/Requirements
LOCATION: THIKA HOSPITAL
DEPARTMENT: TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT
REPORTS TO: HOSPITAL MANAGER
Main Purpose of the Job
To provide safe, reliable and efficient transport services to Avenue’s clients and staff.
Key Responsibilities
• Ensuring that his allocated vehicle is kept clean and secure at all times (especially when not in use)
• Checking the vehicle (on a daily basis) to ensure that all systems – lights, brakes, horn, siren, tyres, signaling etc. are in good working condition and reporting problems / malfunctions immediately
• Checking and verifying that the engine oil, battery, brake fluid and fuel levels are adequate
• Ensuring that his allocated vehicle is properly maintained and stocked with spare tyre, spanner, emergency triangle, first aid box etc.
• Ensuring that ambulances are properly stocked with required medical items, documents and other consumables and that all equipment is in working order
• Checking and notifying the Manager at least 14 days / two weeks ahead of expiry of road license and insurance
• Ensuring that he/she updates and properly maintains the driver’s log book – mileage, record of trips and accounts for fuel consumption
• Properly handling emergency calls including communicating with the caller, gathering pertinent information and responding to and advising the caller appropriately
• Assessing patients at the scene and en route
• Proper handling of EMT duties as per laid out protocols and policies.
• Maintain client and patient privacy and confidentiality at all times
Person Specification
• KCSE Certificate
• Valid BCE driving License
• Valid EMT certificate
• Over 5 years driving experience and at least 1 year as an Ambulance operator
• Proficient in computer and Human Resources Information Systems
• Confident, organized and with excellent communication
• Critical thinking, Analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player
