  • Announcement for Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) Masters, PhD and Short Course Enrolment for 2020/2021 Academic Year
  • The Africa Center of Excellence in Sustainable Use of Insects as Food and Feeds (INSEFOODS) is one of the 24 competitively selected Centers under the World Bank’s Eastern and Southern Africa Higher Education Centers of
    Excellence Project II (ACE II).
  • The goal of INSEFOODS is to achieve long-term food and nutritional security by using insects as a cost-effective source of protein and other nutrients for food and feeds.
  • Students interested in conducting thesis research related to insects as food and feeds will qualify for limited support.

    Programmes Offered

    PhD Programme

  • Doctor of Philosophy in Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture
    Admission Requirements

    Have appropriate preparatory academic training as evidenced by at least one of the following:

  • Be a holder of a Masters Degree in Agricultural and Food Sciences of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology
  • Be a holder of a Masters Degree in Agricultural and Food sciences or an equivalent academic qualification from any other recognized institution.
  • Fulfill specific requirements as may be stipulated by the Department with regard to the field of study.
  • Qualified female, persons living with disabilities and applicants from countries emerging from conflicts are
    encouraged to apply and will be given priority)

    Masters Programme

  • Master of Science in Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture

    Admission Requirements

  • Holders of at least Upper Second Class Honours Bachelor’s degree in Food Security, and other Agricultural and Food Sciences or equivalent qualification from recognized Universities.
  • Holders of a Lower Second Class Honours degree in Agricultural and Food Sciences or related field from recognized Universities
  • Related field or postgraduate Diploma in Agriculture, or Agricultural and Food science related fields from any recognized universities and evidence of two years of relevant work experience.
  • In addition to the above, applicants must meet the specific requirements of the Masters Programme as provided by the University Senate.
  • Qualified female, persons living with disabilities and applicants from countries emerging from conflicts are encouraged to apply and will be given special consideration)

  • Admission Requirements for Short courses
    Short Courses are meant to impart knowledge to farmers to farm edible insects as a novel income generating enterprise; the minimum requirement is ability to read and write Basic English.
