  • JRS is seeking to recruit a suitable candidate for the position of Physiotherapist.
  • As part of the JRS Inclusive Education Department in Kakuma, this position will provide rehabilitation support for children with disabilities in the inclusive education programs in Kakuma refugee camp.
  • Specifically, JRS is aiming at reinforcing the interventions to children with intellectual and multiple disabilities in Kakuma and Kalobeyei camps.
  • Thus, the Physiotherapist will be responsible for the provision of a physiotherapy service to children with Multiple developmental delays.
  • The service will be delivered in a multidisciplinary framework working with the JRS inclusive Education Team as appropriate.
  • In addition the post holder will participate in clinical education, training and supervision of physiotherapy assistants as appropriate.
  • The incumbent will report to Inclusive Education Coordinator and in collaboration with other Inclusive Education staff.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities:
    Identification, evaluation, planning and intervention

    The physiotherapist will be responsible for the following:

  • Day to day participation of the multidisciplinary service to children with developmental delay
  • Assess and treat infants, children, and teenagers with developmental, congenital, and neuromuscular disorders as well as those recovering from injury
  • Use special instruments and qualitative and quantitative assessment methods, including standardized tests, to analyze and diagnose the nature and extent of impairments
  • Perform in-depth patient evaluation, develop treatment plan, and manage individualized treatment focused on the patient’s individual goals. Goals may include improving coordination, balance, strength, endurance, and sensory integration skills
  • Implement treatment plan by using exercises that stimulate and activate different parts of the body. Play should be intertwined with treatment to aid success
  • Treat children with poor coordination, developmental delays, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism, and many other diagnoses
  • Keep records on the initial evaluation, progress, and discharge of clients
  • Work with family members to recognize and change behavior patterns that impede progress and explain techniques to use at home
  • Collaborate with Occupational Therapists, teachers, special educators, other school personnel, and parents to develop and implement individual or group programs, provide counseling, and support classroom activities

    Responsibility for 

    ensuring the delivery of an effective and efficient Physiotherapy service through:

  • Establishment of profession specific quality standards and outcome measures and participation in setting and monitoring multidisciplinary standards for assessment and intervention
  • Regular monitoring and review of the service including clinical audit
  • Advising the Management of JRS of future service requirements/developments and participation in the Service Planning process
  • Provision of professional representation in establishing the highest standards of collaborative practice with colleagues within the Inclusive Education Services Team.

    Job Requirements:

  • Excellent English written skills and good spoken English skills.
  • Hard working and team player with a willingness to learn
  • Takes initiative and sets high goals

    Minimum Education & Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 3+ years as a practicing Physical Therapist/Physiotherapist
  • Diploma/Bachelor’s ’s Degree (or equivalent program) in Physical Therapy
  • Certification by the Kenya Society of Physiotherapists
