a) Explain the role of John the Baptist in preparing the way for the Messiah (8 marks)
He baptized people in River Jordan.
He advised people to live Holy lives by doing what was right.
He preached repentance of sin.
He baptized those who repented.
He encouraged the rich to share with the poor/preached on social justice.
He introduced Jesus to his disciples.
H advised people to lead honest lives e.g. the tax collectors were not to collect what was illegal.
He baptized Jesus in River Jordan.
He foretold that the coming Messiah was greater than him.
He introduced Jesus to the people as the Messiah John 1:29

John the Baptist was a prophet.
John’s mission had been prophesied in the scriptures.
He was to prepare the way for the Messiah.
He lived in the wilderness.
He did not take wine/He was a Nazatite
John led a simple life.
He was the greatest of the Old Testament prophets.
John the Baptist was rejected/people referred to him as demon possessed.
He fasted.
He was referred to as Elijah.
He who is least in the kingdom if greater than John. Any 7 points x 1 = 7 mks
c) Give five lessons Christians learn about family relationships from the incident when Jesus accompanied his parents in the temple at the age of twelve. (5 marks)
Children should obey their parents.
Parents should teach their children about God.
Parents should / provide opportunities for their children to mix with others.
Parents should love and be concerned with their children.
Families should live in unity.
God’s work takes priority over the family.
Parents should recognize their children’s ability.

a) Describe the story of the raising of Jairus’ daughter LK 8:40-56. (7 marks)
Jesus was requested by Jairus who was leader of a synagogue to go and heal his daughter who was very sick.
Jesus accepted Jairus’ humble request.
But a word came that the girl was dead and therefore not need to bother Jesus.
Jesus asked Jairus to have faith and told mourners not t wail because the girl was just asleep.
Jesus together with Peter, John and the James and the parents of the dead girl entered the house.
Jesus held the girl’s hand and commanded her to rise up to which she responded.
Jesus requested that she be given something to eat.
The miracle was to remain a secret. 7 x 1 = 7 mks
b) Give seven reasons why Jesus used parables in his teaching. (7 marks).
To attract his listeners because the stories were enjoyable.
It was a common training method at that time.
To make his listeners think for themselves and make individual moral judgement.
Jesus was a gifted teacher.
To make it easy for the people to understand the complicated theme of unseen kingdom.
To isolate serious and keen listeners from the rest of the group.
He wanted to keep secret his identity until he finalized his mission.
To fulfill the Old Testament prophecies.

Find out the causes of the opposition.
Church leaders should pray for and with those who oppose the.
Explain to them the Gospel truth in a humble manner/guide and counsel them.
Seek reconciliation through a third party.
Involve people in decision making activities of the church.
Recognize their efforts in supporting the church matters.
Visiting and fellowshipping with them.
Assisting them when in problems financially/materially.
Send them messages of encouragement.

One who understand that a neighbour is anybody who requires help regardless of their social status.

People would come claiming to be Jesus, the Messiah, the son of God.
Wars would rise between nations.
Natural calamities like earthquake, famine and plagues would occur.
Strange and terrifying celestial beings would come from the sky.
There would be persecution of the disciples of Jesus.
The disciples would be betrayed to authorities by close relatives and even put to death.
The disciples would be hated on Jesus’ account.
Destruction of the temple of Jerusalem.
The eclipse of the sun and moon.
Strong waves disrupting the sea.

There is no marriage in life after death.
Resurrection is an assurance that there is life after death.
The resurrection life is different from earthly.
The righteous will resurrect are like angels and their bodies will be transformed into spiritual bodies.
Those who will resurrect will become children of God. ny 5 x 1 = 5 mks
4. a) Explain the unity of believers as expressed by the image of the bride. (8 marks)
In the New Testament the Christians are referred to as a bride married to Christ.
The bride groom represents Jesus.
The bride represents Jesus.
The bride represents the church.
The Christians/church are to be committed to Christ, just as the bride is to the bridegroom.
The church is loved by Christ just as the bridegroom loves the bride.
The bride must preserve her purity as a way of waiting for the bridegroom.
Christians are to remain pure and holy through love and faith in Jesus Christ just as the bride keeps her purity for
her husband.
Committed Christians will be taken to a new home/heaven, just as the bride is taken home by the husband.

By listening to their confession. They should confess Jesus as Lord.
By analysing the kind of teachings they profess which should be about Jesus Christ/Christian doctrine.
By examining their lives so as to know whether they posses/show fruit of the Holy Spirit.
By observing their behaviour. The behaviour should not contradict the teaching of Jesus Christ,.
When Christians notice the victorious life of such people over temptations/
If such person do not use the gifts of the Holy Spirit for selfish gains.
When such believes give glory to God/Jesus after serving/performing miracles. 6 x 1= 6 mks

Work and leisure were integrated e.g. people can work and sing.
Work is ordained by God.

It denies God the sole duty of creating humankind in his own image.
It dehumanizes the whole purpose of human reproduction
Cloning may lead to undesirable characteristics to be inherited.
It weakens the immune system of the organism making it susceptible to disease.
Human beings may be denied their rights to reproduce children through the normal sexual relationship.
All human beings are made in God’s image and therefore there is no lesser being.

People are able to carry out an abortion which leads to death of unborn child/risks mothers life/Ethanasia.
Cloning test tube babies undermine human sexuality.
Machines and fertilisers pollute the environment thus endangering human life.
Information derived from pornographic literature, video, films, cyber cafes, tapes, radio pollutes the mind.
Vasectomy/tubal ligation undermine God’s purpose for protection.
Weapons of mass destruction lead to loss of life.
Human beings have rendered jobless due to modern science and technology.
Accidents caused by machines leads to loose of lives.
Deforestation due to paper industries leads to soil erosion/lowers productivity.
Organ transplant /plastic surgery undermines God’s creation.

By conserving the environment eg planting trees/grass/flowers.

Sharing natural resources with those who are unfortunate.
