Reporting to: Manager Projects

Job Summary
This is a Building and Civil position and the qualified candidate will be in charge of managing all costs related to engineering and building projects from first calculations to the final numbers. The holder of this position, will estimate costs of construction projects, working with contractors, builders, and architects to provide the most cost-effective plans that meet high quality standards.  The position provides technical input to the Head of Projects in managing all engineering and building projects in relation to financial and contractual control.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
1)    In conjunction with the relevant Project Management Team member(s), be accountable for the completion of engineering project(s), and develop an appropriate execution strategy for the project(s) to ensure delivery within the required standards, quality, time frames and costs;
2)    Prepare and provide accurate forecasts of project cost to completion and final value. This will include review of architectural plans and preparation of quantity needs;
3)    Carrying out feasibility studies, risk analysis evaluations and cost benefits analysis;
4)    Prepare tender documents, contracts, budgets, bills of quantities and other documentation;
5)    Ensure contract variations are identified, valued and turned into agreed variation orders with the contractors in a timely manner. This may include negotiating the cost of projects;
6)    Ensure that each contractor’s account is managed strictly in accordance with their terms and conditions;
7)    Analyse costs for maintenance and additional building needs;
8)    Measure and value the work done on site;
9)    Analyse completed projects to determine ROI and compare costs;

Qualifications
1)    Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Building Economics, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or closely related field
2)    Higher Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Building Economics/ Construction or its equivalent is an added advantage
3)    Must be a member to a professional body such as IQS (K), AAK, BORAQS

Work Experience
1)    5-10 years post qualification experience in civil engineering, building & construction or financial estimation field;
2)    Experience managing and leading a team including external vendors and agencies;
3)    Experience with managing relationships including regulatory government agencies and other public institutions;
4)    Experienced at compiling and following strict budgets;
5)    In-depth understanding of construction, materials, pricing, and industry standards and ethos.
