adjustment should be made to correct the defect. (1mk)

(iv) Distinguish between hard and soft X-rays (2mk)
(v) Explain the effect of exposing a patient to X-rays for too long (1mk)
(b)(i)What is meant by the term work function? (2mk)
ii) The work function of a certain material is 3.2eV. Determine the threshold
frequency for the material. (1 electron Volt (eV) = 1.6×10-19J and planks constant=
