LOCATION: THIKA HOSPITAL
DEPARTMENT: MEDICAL QUALITY DEPARTMENT
REPORTS TO: NURSING SERVICES MANAGER
Main Purpose of the Job
Lead and coordinate the overall hospital infection prevention and control programs in line with the organizational strategy.
Key Responsibilities
• Coordinate prevention and surveillance of healthcare associated infections.
• Conducting ongoing IPC surveillance of patients and staff members.
• Supervision over Infection control procedures carried out in wards.
• Compiling and interpreting surveillance data from laboratories, pharmacies and wards and presenting in fortnightly meetings.
• Conducting routine microbiological monitoring of equipment’s and surfaces within the facility on quarterly basis.
• Compile records of infectious patients from laboratory and ward rounds.
• Prompt information of notifiable diseases to the Medical Services Manager.
• Ensure that infection control issues are reported to the appropriate line manager with appropriate follow up action taken.
• Supervise implementation of all hygiene and infection control measures in liaison with the Support Services Manager and the In-charges in all units
• Ensure that sharps containers are available in stock maintaining the minimal re-order level. Inspect when in use so as not to exceed the fill mark.
• Actively facilitating learning opportunities that are relevant to nursing and clinical unit learning objectives
• Developing educational programs for nurses in the clinical setting
• Maintain client/patient privacy and confidentiality at all times
Person Specification
• A nursing diploma
• A valid nursing council of Kenya license
• Updated BLS, ACLS certificate
• Over 3 years working in a hospital setting and at least 1 year as an infection control nurse
• Proficient in computer and reporting
• Confident, organized and with excellent communication
• Critical thinking, Analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player
