The Multimedia University of Kenya has demonstrated and stamped its authority as the best media university in the country by being ranked the second best institution in Electronic and Media Services at this year’s Nairobi International Trade Fair, trouncing other universities and a number of companies.
The university exemplary performance at this year’s trade fair also saw it being rated and declared as, third best stand in Hospitality and Catering Services, fourth best institution of Higher Learning in development of Advanced Technology, ninth best stand embracing Information Technology and Communication Systems.
This was achieved through various technological inventions and assorted informative documentaries and animations such as; ‘Electracka’ – an online security system for the registration and tracking of stolen electronic devices, MMU Mobile App which allows clients to access all information about the university from the convenience of a mobile phone, the Object Evading Robot and Online Booking System that links supplier to consumer among others that were the main crowd pullers at the MMU stand at Jamhuri Park, the venue for the trade fair.
The electracka system has been designed to discourage and kill the market of stolen electronic devices. The system is likely to offer solution to higher learning institutions and other organizations where theft of electronic devices is rampant.
MMU Mobile App will greatly enhance the access of the university information, services and products to the prospective students and clients. The app can also be customized to fit any university that may want to use it.
The informative assorted documentaries and animations produced by Media and Communications students will play a vital role in providing relevant content for the digital platforms at a time the world is gearing towards digital migration in 2015.
In line with the trade fair theme: Enhancing technology in agriculture and industry for food security and national growth, the university, through the Faculty of Science and Technology presented a biodiesel product made of Soya beans oil.
Once commercialized, the product will not only offer an alternative cheaper source of energy, but will also boost agricultural production by lowering the cost of transportation.
