Kenya medical training college is committed to providing highly qualified and competent health care professionals. To actualize this K.M.T.C – Kapenguria Campus in collaboration with the county Government of West Pokot has pursued a range of initiatives to build capacity for efficient and effective service delivery in the health sector.
About the campus
KMTC Kapenguria Campus is situated in west Pokot County adjacent to Kapenguria county referral hospital. The campus is built on a 12 acre piece of land donated by the County Hospital through the county government. County government of west Pokot undertook to build and equipped a new and modern facility for Classes, Administrative offices, Skill slab and Library. Some of the pre-existing hospital buildings were also converted for use by the college.
The campus admitted the first enrolled community health nursing students in September 2014. KMTC Kapenguria was officially opened by His Excellency the President Hon. Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta on 16th April 2015.
Kapenguria County Referral Hospital was established in 1934 as a dispensary, elevated in 1936 to a health center and become a District hospital in 1950. It has a bed capacity of 160, attends 250 to 300 outpatient cases per day and an average of 300 deliveries per month which makes it an ideal clinical experience site for students.

Courses
Currently the college offers the following courses:
Diploma in enrolled community health Nursing
Certificate in community Health nursing
The college is in the process of starting Certificate in community nutrition by March 2017. The college also is planning to introduce other courses offered by KMTC as there is still enough space for expansion.

Administration Block
The administration block houses the administrative offices for the Principal and his Deputy, aboard room and eight (8) offices with modern executive furniture. A skills lab that has been fully equipped thanks to the county government of West Pokot and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, six (6) class rooms with a capacity of 60 students, five (5) of which are equipped with 50 modern arm chairs. There is also a modern and well-equipped library with adequate books, reading tables, chairs and cabinets. The library has a capacity of 120 students. A computer lab with six desktop computers with internet access is also available.

Accomodation
The campus has well equipped hostel facilities with a capacity of 130 for both female and male students. The hostels have adequate water supply in the washrooms and storage tanks are placed strategically within the hostels.The college is intending to build more hostel facilities with the help of the county government and private investors have also shown great interest in building hostels right next to the college. The campus is also in the proces of entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with FGC Home Craft who have a hostel facilty with a capacity of 100 students.
Dining Hall
The college also has a dining facility with a capacity of 30 people per sitting. The facility has been outsourced to a private investor generating income for the college.
Clubs and sports
The college participates in the KMTC sports events. Facilities for field events such as football, athletics and basketball are available at the campus. Our students also participate indoor games such as darts, table tennis among others.
There is also an active and dedicated students’ representative council (SRC) which presents students’ grievances to the administration.

The campus is expected to acquire its own vehicles courtesy of the World Bank sponsored program and the KMTC management.
Future Plans
The college is in the process of constructing detached modern toilets which take into consideration people with disabilities as the college believes in equal opportunities for all. Installation of water tanks for harvesting and storing rain water is also ongoing. This will enable the college to sustain the growing number of students as it expands.
The college has also put in place mechanism to level the college field to allow our students to fully engage in extracurricular activities within the college. Students currently use the Hospital’s field for extra-curricular activities
