About Laikipia University Department of Biological & Biomedical Sciences Technology
The Department is housed in the School of Science and Applied Technology. Despite this being a relatively young Department in Laikipia University, the staff comprises of young, passionate and enthusiastic staff with a wealth of experience and great national and international reputation. The Department also boasts of diverse areas of specialization among the staff which provides an ideal centre of excellence in Biological and Biomedical Sciences training and research.
Given the fact that Biology studies life there are a multitude of topics and specialist areas available for study.
Our Department offers Botany and Zoology courses which benefit students taking B.Ed Science, BSc. in Biochemistry, BSc. General, BSc in Environmental Sciences, BSc. USAL and BSc. Agricultural Education.
The Students benefit from courses which cover Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Immunology, Parasitology, ecology, marine biology, microbiology, physiology, genetics, among others. The Department prides itself in providing relevant and high quality teaching, research and consultancy coupled with a very exciting and informative learning environment. The staff are dedicated to provide solutions to present day problems that face humanity. Challenges of climate change, food safety, infectious and lifestyle diseases among others are taken into consideration when designing research proposals, training students and seeking collaborative and partnering projects.
Our university is fortunately situated close to an intact natural forest that hosts a great diversity of flora and fauna. The same forest is a source to many springs and streams that flow through the University punctuated with pools, ponds, and wetlands. Apart from providing a rich area for study and research, this environment provides us with a reason to conserve this natural laboratory for our current and future students.
