MUHAS Short Courses in Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Training 2024-2025

Health Sciences Institution generates knowledge and technologies through its research to advance innovative solutions and approaches to prevention, control and treatments of diseases. Rational utilization of its research infrastructures, facilities and the intellectual inputs can spearhead innovation and inventions in the health sector. In this endeavor, understanding intellectual property rights (IPR) of works that are in the form of literary work; innovations and inventions of medical devices, products or processes is important. The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) aim to conduct a training workshop to creating Awareness on IPR issues to staff, students and stakeholders working with Health Sciences Institution.

Content of Training: The training will include the following Areas:

IPR legal and legislative awareness

Administration and management of IPR

Commercialization of IPR

Objective of the Training

Increase knowledge base on IPR legal and legislatives of the Institutional, national and international

Enhance negotiation skills in contrasting research, technology transfer and commercialization of health research outputs

Participants expected outcome

Participants are able to evaluate and use IPR strategies, policies and tools in health research.

Method of delivery

Interactive Lectures, Brainstorming, Group works and presentation Date and duration of the course: Two full days.

On 20th &21st, February, 2017 for Health and Allied sciences Researchers and senior academic staff.

On 10th& 11st April, 2017 for Postgraduate students;

Eligibility: Applicants must be either of the following

1.Principal Investigators of research projects

2.Research and academic staff in health professionals

3.Research and academic staff in allied health sciences employed in health institution

4.Master or PhD candidates or Post-doctoral who aspire to take academic positions or research positions in health related Institution

Documents to be submitted: 1. Current CV; 2. Motivation letter; to be submitted by 15th February, 2017 (Staff) and 30th March, 2017 (Students), respectively.

Number of Participants: The maximum number of participants is 45.

Course Leader: Directorate of Research and Publication –MUHAS, Experts from BRELA, COSOTA, COSTECH and MUHAS

Cost of Training: The MUHAS Sida Research Training Support Program will provide refreshment and training materials. However, participants will incur cost for their transport to MUHAS and living cost in Dar es Salaam
