Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology Admission Requirements
Admission and Registration
NM-AIST admits qualified students mainly from the Eastern African Region and Sub-Saharan Africa generally. However, applicants from outside Africa are also welcome. The minimum qualifications for one to be eligible for admission to NM-AIST’s Master’s and PhD by either Coursework and Dissertation or by Thesis programmes are as shown below and overleaf.
Admission Requirements
Master’s Programmes
- Master’s by Thesis: The candidate must be a holder of a relevant good Bachelor’s degree with a GPA of at least 3.5/5.0 or the equivalent, from a recognized Institution.
- Master’s by Coursework and Dissertation: The candidate must be a holder of a relevant good Bachelor’s degree with a GPA of at least 3.0/5.0 or the equivalent, from a recognized Institution.
PhD Programmes
- PhD by Thesis: The candidate must possess a relevant good Bachelor’s degree with a GPA of at least 3.5/5.0 or the equivalent, and a relevant good Master’s degree of at least the equivalent of B+ from a recognized Institution.
- PhD by Coursework and Dissertation: The candidate must possess relevant good Bachelor’s degree with a GPA of at least 3.0/5.0 or equivalent, and a relevant good Master’s degree of at least the equivalent of B+ from recognized Institutions.
Candidates for whom English was not their study language at undergraduate level are required to prove their Englis proficiency using internationally accepted criteria, e.g., TOEFL.
