Uganda Ministry of Health Nursing Department
The Nursing profession comprises of the largest category of professionals that provide approximately 80% of the health care workforce. Inorder to achieve this. there must be adequate supply of nursing workforce that is appropriately educated , equtably deployed and distributed to support the health needs of the Ugandan population.
The Nursing department is charged with the responsibility to maintain the quality of nursing services in the country in accordance with the government policies and priorities.
The core functions of the nursing department include;
- To support / supervise the nursing activities in the country , to ensure quality nursing srvices are provided to the community
- To build the capacity throuh on job training orientation workshops in managerial and leadership skills
- To enhance coordination and collaboration of nursing activities both nationally and internationally
- To supervise the implementation of policies and standards
- To present nursing interests at various forums
- Review and disseminate nursing policy guidelines and nursing standards
- Maintain inter sectoral collaboration
