Job Summary: The Program Officer-Gender Equality and Girls Empowerment will take responsibility for planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting on the interventions under the Girls as Drivers of Change (GADC) Project aimed at empowering girls to be agents of change, in championing gender equality and tackling gender-based violence (GBV). The project will empower, transform and equip girls aged 12-17 years with skills to identify and respond to lives challenges through the solutions labs and a young activist by harnessing their safety from judgement, stereotyping and violence and enabling them to realize their dreams. Out of the problem into the solution is premised on three pillars: Component 1 – Rollout the Voices Against Violence Curriculum; Component 2 – Inspire and Influence girls through the Solutions Labs and Component 3 – Support of girls with direct grants to reduce GBV in the communities, champion gender equality and create change. The project conduct transformative advocacy campaigns at school, community, district and national level. It will also pilot the Feminist MEAL Framework.
The job holder will work closely with the with the girl’s clubs in schools and the community lead facilitators and support the girls in the design of projects and participate in the solutions labs. The job holder may be called upon as and when necessary to other support gender-related activities in other project locations in the Karamoja Sub-region.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant must hold a Bachelor Degree in an appropriate social and development field such as Social Science, Sociology, Gender/ women Studies, Development Studies, Community Development or Rural Development, Public Health, International Development.
- At least 2-3 years of experience working on gender development programming, preferably in development contexts. Familiarity with key international standards for development work and the feminist principle, gender transformation
- Experience in training and community engagement on gender transformation with demonstrated evidence
- Demonstrated knowledge of international and local policies and frameworks relating to Feminism and Gender.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching
- Excellent time management and planning capacity
- Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.
- Previous experience of project management
- Demonstrated monitoring and evaluation skills
- Strong analytical skills and strategic planning abilities.
- Ability to establish and maintain conducive collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a team.
- Willingness to travel and work in hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.
- Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.
- Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
