Job Summary: The Project Officer will play the lead role of overseeing Habitat for Humanity Uganda’s project activities for Orphans and other Vulnerable Children (OVC). The position calls for a high level of integrity, collaboration and networking at Local and District Level.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Overseeing all aspects of program implementation and ensuring consistency of approach in the target communities.
- Provision of leadership and support to sub-county and lower level community members engaged in the project activities.
- Conduct community meetings to identify and document OVC families that are in need of shelter and other house related services.
- Conduct family assessments of the identified families to benefit in shelter support.
- Support the already existing groups and formation of caregiver’s initiatives and skills building.
- Support the construction supervisor in all house construction processes.
- Increasing Resilience by building key life skills.
- Educate caregivers and older children in succession planning & Inheritance Rights.
- Educate caregivers and older OVC in Water Hygiene & Sanitation (WASH).
- Educate caregivers Malaria preventive and Adolescent Reproductive Health (ASRH)
- Educate targeted communities about HIV/AIDs care and prevention.
- Psychosocial counselling to orphans and households affected by HIV/AIDS
- Training in livelihood security
- Educate the caregivers in Street Business School (SBS) Skills.
- Ensure youth are trained in vocational skills.
- Reporting and Monitoring Evaluation, Accountability & Learning (MEAL)
- Ensuring the activities are carried out within the approved budget, on schedule and according to the approved plan.
- Ensuring a high standard of financial accountability for the project activities
- Formation & support of the existing groups and Skills building
- Identify and develop a data base of the OVC families that are in need of shelter & vocational skills training and other house related services.
- Participate in advocacy initiatives for OVC at all district levels.
- Conduct community feedback meetings.
- Carry out any other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Diploma in social work or its equivalent (additional qualifications are an added advantage).
- Three years of NGO project/program related implementation and management preferably within the HIV/AIDs/ Housing Sector.
- Proven field based experience in coordinating HIV/AIDS, OVC, or related programs.
- Broad knowledge and understanding of HIV/AIDS/OVC programming/Livelihood approaches and knowledge of similar programs in the country.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English/local language.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Experience in networking, advocacy and lobbying with the local level government and other organizations.
- Ability to work and live in rural setting
