Job Summary: The Humanitarian Child Protection Technical Manager is primarily responsible for enforcing the Child Protection strategy, policy and practice in Save the Children’s Humanitarian Response. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for building capacity of staff, civil society organisations, government and other stakeholders for improved child protection programme delivery region-wide. This will include leading the effective implementation of the planned objectives for child protection in the strategy, provision of technical guidance to ongoing programmes, fundraising and proposal development activities to mobilize new resources, guidance and advice to Area Manager and Sub Area Managers on Child Protection issues, and external representation of the regional portfolio. The jobholder will also incorporate the Child Protection Code of Conduct as part of an effort to mainstream Child Protection across regional staffing. In addition, the person ensures that programme development and planning, baseline data collection, monitoring and evaluation, donor reporting and learning is adhered to in the areas of operation.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Save the Children Humanitarian Child Protection Technical Manager job opportunity should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Education, Development Studies, Emergency and Disaster Management, Conflict Resolution or a relevant field. Graduate or post-graduate training in project planning & management, monitoring and evaluation, community development & research or related field is an added advantage
- At least eight years of relevant working experience with at least 3 years at management level in an international NGO.
- Previous experience in Child Protection programming.
- Broad knowledge, understanding and demonstrated commitment to child rights issues, and the direct link between children’s rights and laws and policies of government.
- Exhibit commitment to gender equity, child rights, community empowerment, and grassroots development approaches.
- Working knowledge of programming and policy development.
- Broad knowledge and understanding of national government policies on conflict and disaster and how to contribute to their development with political analysis skills, sensitivity and diplomacy.
- Strategic and people management skills, diplomacy and Confidentiality.
- Prior exposure and experience working with local partners and District Local Government in Child Rights Governance, Health, Nutrition, Education, HIV/AIDS or Child Protection is an added advantage.
- Excellent analytical skills and strategic planning abilities.
- Ability to establish and maintain conducive collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a team.
- Willingness to travel and work in hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.
- Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.
- Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Ability to intervene with crisis management or troubleshooting as necessary.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
- Excellent time management and planning capacity.
- Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.
