The AIDS Support Organization (TASO Uganda) is an organisation contributing to a process of preventing HIV infection, restoring hope and improving the quality of Life of persons, families and communities affected by HIV infection and disease.
About CDC Project:
TASO has received a 5-year CDC-PEPFAR Grant to implement accelerated HIV/AIDS epidemic control activities through a Health Systems Strengthening approach in Soroti Region, covering 8 districts of Soroti, Kaberamaido (Cluster 1), Katakwi, Amuria (Cluster 2), Serere, Kumi, Bukedea and Ngora (Ouster 3). In addition, TASO will be implementing accelerated HIV/AIDS epidemic control activities through a Health Systems Strengthening approach in Masaka and Kalungu districts, as a Sub-recipient under the Masaka Region Rakai Health Sciences Program (RHSP) Consortium funded by PEPFAR through CDC.
Job Summary: The Prevention, Care and Treatment Advisor- Paediatrics & Adolescent Health will provide strategic and technical support in the areas of Maternal, neonatal and child Health (MNCH), Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV/Early Infant Diagnosis (EMTCT/EID), Paediatric and Adolescent Health, Nutrition Assessment and Counselling Support (NACS) to the TASO COEs and supported HFs. The incumbent will support the implementation of Paediatric and Adolescent health services, particularly EMTCT/EID, MNCH and NACS services. S/he wiH spearhead research, training, mentorshtp and supervise fronttine health workers in both technical aspects of Paediatric and adolescent health, maternal and child health (MCH), elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV (EMTCT) and in professional health care delivery. The major roles include developing research protocols, mobilizing grants and conducting research on Paediatric and adolescent health, coordinating trainings, providing mentorship, supporting documentation and reporting related to MNCH and EMTCT.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop research Protocols on Paediatric and Adolescent health
- Ensure that research grants are received
- Carry out research studies, document and share the findings
- Ensure that all frontline health workers are properly trained, mentored and coached
- Provide technical guidance to the TASO Partners
- Participate in technical working groups meetings
- Monitor all TASO’s MNCH, EMTCT/EID activities
- Prepare and submit regular reports as compiled
- Ensure that abstracts and Manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals are published
- Ensure that sexual and Reproductive health services, targeting Adolescent Girls and Young Women age 10-24 years (DREAMS interventions) are brought to scale.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the CDC Project Prevention, Care and Treatment Advisor- Paediatrics & Adolescent Health job opportunity should hold a Master of Medicine degree in Paediatrics and Child Health or a related field
- Training in elimination of mother to child transmission Option B+
- A minimum of three years’ experience in HIV/AIDS programming, preferably with PEPFAR-funded projects.
- Broad knowledge and understanding of maternal and child health issues especially goal oriented ANC
- Good report writing skills and basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint packages.
- Good research grant writing skills
- Proven skills in Abstract and Manuscript writing
- Keen attention to detail, especially regarding data accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills, including making oral presentations
- Ability to work with others and maintain compatibility among project staff, sub-contractors, consultants and the community leadership.
- Ability to manage projects, set priorities and plan for the successful implementation of programs.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision, team player with drive as an initiative
