Job Summary: The Clinical Officer will be responsible for implementation of the health program. This includes participation in technical assessments, collection of health data, implementation, monitoring, documentation and reporting of the project as well as supervision and support of community health workers, contribution to overall health program, its appropriateness and quality. In an integrated response, the Health Officer will link closely with other respective sectors to ensure maximum possible integration of the project activities. The role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Save the Children Clinical Officer job opportunity should hold a degree in medicine, nursing, clinical medicine or in related disciplines OR equivalent experience in the health sector
- Previous experience of working in role with MoH or NGO desirable
- Broad knowledge and understanding of broad health issues within affected community
- Good understanding of local humanitarian context.
- Fluency in English (both spoken and written).
- Show commitment to working through systems of community participation.
- Broad knowledge and understanding of community, culture and customs.
- Good understanding of local humanitarian context.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively engage with communities, including children, and health officials.
- Able to work in a stressful and changing environment with limited resources.
- Able to work with limited supervision, improvise and take initiative in face of unexpected challenges.
- Willingness to stay at different base and field locations depending on the needs of the program.
- Computer literate with good knowledge of relevant medical databases.
- Prior exposure and experience working with local partners and District Local Government in Child Rights Governance, Health, Nutrition, Education, HIV/AIDS or Child Protection is an added advantage.
- Excellent analytical skills and strategic planning abilities.
- Ability to establish and maintain conducive collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a team.
- Willingness to travel and work in hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.
- Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.
- Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Ability to intervene with crisis management or troubleshooting as necessary.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
- Excellent time management and planning capacity.
- Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.
