Kyagulanyi Ministries Uganda is a Christian not-for-profit organization duly registered with the Registrar of Companies of Uganda as a non-profit organization to provide a platform for the youth, children and Adults to transform their lives and foster them to become responsible citizens who are God fearing and of devoted character. The overall project consists of five programs namely; Expedition and development camps, Evangelism, Orphans & vulnerable children, Entrepreneurship & Employability and Media. These programs are further anchored by site/field projects of Practical Education, Leadership Training, Community Initiative and Counselling psycho-social support and a cross line Discipleship training program. Our motivation to establish this organization was our craving to want the children, youth and Elders of Uganda to undergo character transformation, become problem solving leaders through church, natural environment stewards and become wholly responsible citizens who believe in GOD. Our project shall at all times consider GOD as the centre of focus for all the world systems thus i.e. freedom from political and individual selfish influence, non-faith learning and will at all times be in line with our goal and mission.
Job Summary: The Ministry/ Church Accountant/Bookkeeper will provide financial services to the Ministry/church members and professional church staff.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Ministry:
- Lead the team for preparation of bank reconciliations statements of all Ministry bank accounts;
- Keenly review the preparation of journals and posting of the general ledger accounts in the system;
- Provide support in the preparation of the quarterly statements of receipts and payments of public funds;
- Offer support in the preparation of the ministry financial statements at end of each financial year;
- Assist in the provision of reports on any issues identified and devise control procedures to strengthen the systems of internal control within Ministry and its projects;
- Assist in the preparation and updating of the treasury manual on the accounting systems and internal control procedures.
Church:
- Obtain and record pledges made during the annual stewardship drive.
- Prepare quarterly giving statements.
- Enter weekly contributions to general fund, building fund, special funds, and donor designated funds.
- Keep confidential all financial contribution information.
- Enter all invoices submitted for payment, cut checks, submit to treasurer for signature, and prepare for mailing.
- Balance checking account and investment accounts and submit reconciliation to treasurer for signature.
- Submit to the church treasurer and church administrator a listing of all checks written during the month.
- Prepare monthly reports for the Church Board and individual ministry teams.
- Process payroll on a biweekly basis.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and yearly payroll tax forms and make necessary deposits, and prepare W‐2s at year‐end.
- Prepare a yearly budget draft for review and adoption by the Church Board.
- Back up the computer system.
- Prepare for and cooperate with those appointed to perform a yearly audit of financial records.
- Prepare year‐end financial reports for annual meeting.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Administrator, senior pastor, supervisor and/or the secretary of finance and planning within the ministry.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant should preferably hold an associate’s degree in accounting from an accredited educational institution.
- The applicant must be a born-again and willing to become full church member, who will work closely to monitor the job.
- Christian ministry skills is a bonus, in relation to pastoral, activities gospel preaching, Sunday school teaching all these are bonus marks.
- Practical experience in fund‐based accounting and account reconciliation.
- A demonstrated Christian faith commitment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills including MS Word, Excel and Access, and specific fund based-accounting software.
- Keen attention to detail and precision in account reconciliation and report generation.
- Exhibit commitment to good interpersonal relationships, teamwork and support of church ministries.
- Show commitment to confidentiality regarding all account records, both of the church and staff, and the members.
- Dependable attendance.
- Age: Between 30 – 40 years
